School Prayer - Isn't it all just for show?

At my son's National Junior Honor Society induction the other night, they ended the ceremony with the choir singing an Irish Prayer. Whatever, but it kind of irks me that the schools sneak in these little religious tid-bits of prayer from time to time. This is a public school, after all.It just got me thinking about the whole prayer in the schools debate. Can't a religious person pray whenever and wherever they want? No one is stopping any one from silently praying to their god during school…See More

Greetings, Gina! I notice you haven't been active at Atheist Nexus lately. <sigh> Sometimes it can seem a bit fragmented, with different groups for every interest. Please consider a group for socializing, where we talk about whatever's on our minds, Hang With Friends. :D You might feel more at home.

  • You wouldn't believe the amount of parents at the skating rink with their bibles out, taking notes.

I'd bring a copy of "The God Delusion" and conspicuously read that.  I often do that, during my downtime at work.

  • I do not understand how it has become unpatriotic to believe in freedom of religion and speech. What would our U.S. forefathers think?

They'd scream, "Ahhhhh!  Where are the horses for these carriages flying around at unsafe speeds above 60 miles per day?"
