In the news

Atheists and atheism are getting more positive news coverage these days. We have a long way to go, but this seems to me to be a good sign. The Miami HeraldBeyond belief: Atheists push for greater visibility and acceptanceThere's nothing unusual about churches advertising Sunday services, but South Florida atheists are turning that idea on its head: Why not promote the belief that there is no God?See More

Freethought Day at Disney

The Space Coast Freethought Association will sponsor its annual Freethought Day at Disney on October 17th (that's a Saturday) at Disney World. There is a Freethought Day at Disney web site, which contains particulars and will include plans as they develop for this year's event. This is simply a get-together to have fun with some like-minded people and to get to know other freethinkers from around the state. It's a fairly…See More

About Me
I am the author of two books: "Godless in America: conversations with an atheist" and "mere atheism: no gods…no problem!" I spent most of the first half of my life as a Christian—even spent one year in seminary studying for the ministry—but came to my senses a bit more than three decades ago.

I have just updated the Godless in America website with the following. In the blog, I note a discount on my books, mention the mobbing of a reporter in Jerusalem, cite a ruling against a Bible Club, talk about some scientists who "just say no" to the Templeton Foundation, plug le Tour de France, offer an invite to the upcoming Freethought Day at Disney (sponsored by the SCFA), and provide links to a couple of videos that I find inspiring. I have also added links to a couple of humorous sites (there's a new section called "Humor" on the "Links" page) and a science blog by Jerry Coyne called "Why Evolution Is True," named after his excellent book with the same title. I have added a new essay called "Irreconcilable differences: the myth of compatibility between science and religions."

I didn't know you George, but I just gave the world, on your behalf, a moment of pandemonium -- right outside front my house -- I wonder if the neighbors now think I'm off my nut? (But it felt really good!)
