Palin tends to make overstatements and, if called on them, can be made to look unqualified and stupid. If she shoots herself in the foot enough times people will find it difficult to back her. The thing to do is remain poised while explaining in very simple and concise terms the absurdity of her positions.
Scientific information is becoming more and more accepted as truth throughout the world. I think that this together with the internet to present scientific information is going to create a burden on religious fundamentalists that will grow exponentially. Therefore, I think they will appear (on an exponential basis) increasingly rediculous (by subscribing to positions such as that the earth is only 6,000 years old). Nobody likes to appear ridiculous. Accordingly, I think it is just a matter of time before religious fundamentalists become a rare breed regardless of what doctrine is compromised in the processed. I think the weight of appearing rediculous will just become too heavy for most to carry and the fewer of them that are left the more rediculous they will seem.
Scientific evidence and reason has to be affecting them on the subconscious level. Many have already gone to positions such as intelligent design in order to not look completely asinine. Notwithstanding, I certainly do not expect to see a landslide to Atheism in my lifetime.
Hi Fred and Bette, and welcome to this friendly meeting place where we recognise, like you do as an atheist, that gods are all phoney and religions are cunning frauds used to control people;
and how tragic and inexcusable it is that women and minorities have been oppressed these last two thousand years and more.
