Fran Stein commented on Darrel Ray's group Recovering from Religion
"Thank you for writing about this! I believe no one who leaves religion can ever say he's truly free. We're all recovering unless we've had the great good fortune to have been spared religion."

Recovering from Religion

Unless you were raised by atheist parents, you probably had some recovering to do when you left religion. The purpose of RR is to provide a landing place for people when they jump from religion. With local support groups throughout the US, Canada, UK, and Australia, and real-time resources accessible to everyone, RR is where to turn when faith has lost its luster.See More

About Me:
Used to be very religious but I've seen too much in all my years to justify belief. Don't like the idea that some deity controls our lives. I prefer accidents because at least everyone is equal that way.

In my case I'd have to say both. My grandmother, who was a certified nut herself, always insisted that whenever anything bad happened to me, such as falling down the stairs (I'm not kidding), God was punishing me for something. Right, at three years old. My mother was always bragging about her near-death experience as a child where Jesus appeared at her bedside and smiled at her---which she insisted meant she'd live longer than anyone else. Well, she did make it to 94,…

Welcome, Fran! I'm glad you found our community of diverse freethinkers.

You might be interested in the group "Jewish Atheists", and maybe (or maybe not) "Humanist Jews". I also enjoy the wide-ranging group "Hang With Friends" where people catch up on each other's lives and discuss everything from the future of the planet to cute kitties.

(I often discover interesting things in the "Latest Activity" list in the lower right.)

It's great that you're here!
