"Anthony, I like your term, "absence of belief in god(s)" much better than a lack of belief; there is no lack as far as I am concerned in not having a belief in god. What I lacked when believing in god was the freedom to make healthy…"

Profile Information

About Me:
70 years old, retired blue collar worker, H/S and 1 year of college. atheist for 50 years and agnostic for 10 years before that. I was raised in a strong Southern Baptist tradition. I was always in the closet and I still am to a large degree. I am the first atheist in my family and have only met 2 or3 outside of the family. They are not close friends. I've been almost totally alone in my beliefs with the people I've been exposed to. That's a "BUMMER" !! I'm looking to make contact with like minded people after all these years.

Hi Fire Hunter!  It looks like the 2 closest groups to you are the Secular Humanists of the Lowcountry (my group) in Charleston, SC and the Coastal Atheists and Secular Humanists in Savannah, GA.  You can find SHL online at www.lowcountryhumanists.org and on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/groups/90436456767/; and you can find CASH on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/groups/393375777355255/.  Neither of these are extremely close, but maybe you could come to occasional gatherings.  Good luck!
