Sorry about the long delay, there.  I had a few very busy days.

It sounds a lot like you have a similar situation to what we have over here, only it's Christians doing it here.

That sounds pretty bad, that the people in power in Turkey are trying to change the whole way that the government works.  Does Turkey not have as firm of a governmental document as the US Constitution?  The US Constitution is changeable, but it's very, very difficult.

The Republicans don't have sufficient power to make those kinds of changes.  Hell, at the moment, they don't even have enough power to do much of anything except shut down the government.  The thing is, they're willing to hold the whole government hostage and trash our economy, unless they can have everything their way.  Most of them are refusing to compromise in any way, even to pass basic spending bills.  It's pretty sad.

Sounds like you're a bit of a politics nut, too.  Cool.  This is just kind of a rough forum for talking about anything like that in detail.  It helps to have a bit quicker back and forth response time, like a messenger program or something.  Admittedly, most of that has been my fault.  ^.^

Well, it is a bit of a problem, doing that, since I don't get a notification message for things you post on your own wall ... but you fixed it now, so there's no more problem.

Hmm, I must be blurring Turkey together with my impression of Egypt and Lebanon.  I know those countries have a fairly large Christian population.  Of course that isn't helping Egypt much, lately.  They're on the edge of turning into a Muslim theocracy.

We've got our own problems, here in the US, although it's gradually getting better.  It's just going to take a few more years for the system to work itself out.  We have many flaws in our electoral system.

The Republican Party (the more conservative one) broke the voting maps in 2010, when they made a quick power grab, in many states.  And we can't fix them until 2020, unless we can get the court system to fix some of the mess.  The Republicans have just enough power to block the majority from doing anything, and they'd rather burn down the government than let the Democratic Party (the more liberal one that Barack Obama is from) accomplish anything.

Basically, the American population is getting more liberal, but the conservative politicians are holding onto power through dirty tricks ... and the small percentage of crazy-religious Christians in this country continue to support the conservatives and help them break the system.  It's not as bad as a Muslim theocracy, but without the Constitution to stop the religious nuts, it would be.
