Note: I am writing a devil's advocate position in defense of positions that do not hold the party line.
During the 50s, Albert Camus, my favorite philosopher, lost many of his friends because of his silence on the Algerian war, his movement for 'civil truce' and his criticism of communism.

Rather than making up numbers and having a debate over Pascal's wager, I just say that something should not even be put on the table as possible if there is no evidence of its possibility.

I am relatively sure that you follow Dan Dennet's progress far better than I follow Sam Harris' progress.
By "coincidence", I was made aware of an article by Sam Harris today with the title: Free Will and "Free Will": How my view differs from Daniel Dennett's
I started to read through it and I was struck by the similarity of our discussion yesterday.
I would hope that you read at least the parts about color in the beginning of the article (if not the whole article).
I wonder if you will notice how much nicer Sam puts it than I do, but basically he is saying that Dan is playing word games.
I quote a little bit of Sam's article here to make a point:
"In Free Will, I argue that people are mistaken in believing that they are free in the usual sense. I claim that this realization has consequences—good ones, for the most part—and for that reason we should not gloss over it by revising our definition of “free will” too quickly."
I quote those sentences to show that if you do not understand them, but you want to, then you might be more inclinded to read the whole thing.
