A place for atheists to discuss morality issues. What shapes your morality? What new perspectives have you found since abandoning faith (if you ever had any)? Is there any merit to religious moral authority?

I am a HUGE nerd. I own 1000 movies (Mostly Sci/fi, Fantasy and Kung-fu flicks), almost 500 board games, 400 Role-playing game books, 200 Action figures (mint in package even!). I love science and politics...

A general skeptic who has looked into about every religion available, I'm a rather "hardcore" atheist because of this. I see religion as an absurd affliction, a dire cultural addiction that society should work to recover from.

While I may be light on moderate religious types I am with "The Four Horsemen" on the view that it is the moderates that make the room for the extremists.

I enjoy debate with the "faithful" and work to hone my arguments through an increase in scientific and historic knowledge. I also enjoy using the bible to condemn the bible.

If you're new to the Nexus, or been under a rock, I'm one of the Charioteers in the Chariots of Iron podcast, we do a weekly show where we tear apart scripture, talk science and share news of interest to atheists.

I want to start by saying a couple things about the blogging here. I started some months ago putting up regular posts, and then inexplicably stopped. This was due to some internal wrangling between Joe, Lamar and myself as to what this website was going to be, how it related to what’s going on at atheiskeptihumanist.com and atheistnews.org. I think these have all been worked out and I’ll be posting here again.

Now, on to the show.

As many of our listeners are aware (and… Continue

I blog over on the Chariots of Iron site, and I just put up a long one over there, it was rather well thought out so i thought I'd mirror it here for AN users that don't visit our podcast site... and yes this has been a shameless plug for bot the blog and the podcast. The version there contains many links to some references. I don't mirror posts often, so I hope you enjoy this rant.

Today has been one of ups and downs and it’s not even noon… Continue

Over on the Wired.com blogs I saw an interesting article which relates precisely to the segment we did in season one, episode one.

This article does a much better job of pointing out some competing ideas, and gets into some information I did not have time to adequately cover in the segment, I strongly suggest clicking through the links in the article as well. I know that the LHC is dominating the minds of pop-science fans, but these are major breakthroughs going on which implications… Continue

I was thinking of a thought experiment to try and teach my child when she comes of age about the very basics of religion and atheism and why I stand where I do. This is what came to me as I lay trying to fall asleep last night.

Take two cups, one clear and one opaque, fill the clear one up with stones, beads, etc.. or a wide range of colors, have the opaque cup upside-down on a table. Tell the person that under this cup there may or may not be a stone under the cup and then ask them… Continue
