I've been a non believer most of my life despite growing up in a 'believer' home. My first marriage was to a Christian (Southern Baptist) so I went along with that BS for a while. We divorced about 20 yrs in. For another 4 years I entertained some new age woo.
Now I'm an Athe-Skepti-Humanist type. I'm 'out' but only a little. I am the Director of a department within an organization managed by a very large religious institution. So, while I do not pretend to be a believer I do keep a low profile. A few people know I'm an atheist--but only a few.
My husband and I have a few friends here who are non believers (or agnostic--say, aren't we all, really?). We are not active in any atheist organization. There is a 'meet up' group an hour away from us; but work schedules has kept us from that.

Hello Eleanor and welcome to this meeting place with its freethinking friends who recognise how religions and fictional gods keep on being used to deceive and control vulnerable people beginning with innocent children.
And how tragic it is that women and minorities have been oppressed these last two thousand years and longer by patriarchal societies.
