Close your eyes and try to think of something labeled "God".  You can't!  You can think of unicorns, and pink polka dot elephants, and even Zeus and Hercules, but those aren't anything a theist would  label "God".  You can think of a huge bearded old man in the sky, like the one Michelangelo painted on the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel, but that bearded old man is material and finite in size, nothing any theist would label "God".  Everything you can think of is finite in size and material.  You…See More

I don't label myself an atheist, but rather a theological noncognitivist. Theists say "God is infinite" but everything anybody can think of is necessarily finite. Therefore I don't believe the row of 3 alphabet letters "God" or the row of 6 alphabet letters "Yahweh" refers to anything that can be mentally thought of either by theists, atheists, or agnostics. That's why I don't speak or write "God" or "Yahweh" except within quotation marks, and only then to speak of the row of alphabet letters.…See More

Hi, and a friendly welcome to Edwin McCravy.
Very glad to have you here among the sensible, rational set.

Welcome to this great Nexus meeting place and its thousands of bright people like you who recognise religion for the superstition and brainwashing fraud that it is---
and that gods exist only as fictions inside people's heads.
