Book burning you wouldn't believe

I wish more of you spoke spanish or that I wasn't so pissed so I could translate this for you. I will tell you however what the main point is.

A few weeks ago I read about some news about the biology book for secondary school (for kids around 12 years of age) published not by the national regulatory secretariat in Mexico (SEP, Secretaría de Educación Pública) but by the state of Guanajuato.

The argument this office had —and they were proud of it— was that… Continue

A few days ago I somehow ended up remembering an early chapter of the history of my life. I was just a little kid, about 7 or 8 years old, when my Catholic background required me to attend catechism lessons so I could receive my first Communion.

After some months of coming to the house of a weird lady who believed she could talk in tongues and used to do it in front of us kids, I was awarded the gift of salvation —eating the body of Christ— for the first time, but first I had to come… Continue

1% of people in my city don't believe in anything.

This is according to a telephone survey conducted in Cd. Juárez, Chihuahua, México.

A local newspaper interviewed 100 people over the phone and found out that 94 percent say they profess a specific religion; 5 percent believe in a higher power but aren't members of any religion; one person doesn't believe in anything.

Oh, how it bothers me when they say we don't believe in anything. According to my father we don't even believe in our own mothers...…

This is just horrible

I've just read a story in a one of the most important newspapers here in Juárez, about how some kids, all under the age of 12, will be "reenacting" the stations of the cross.

I think it is awful, stupid and cruel enough that adults represent this physically abusive story, but to have children doing it! that's brutal.

And then I found these videos on youtube…

My first blog

Hi, I've been a member for a couple of months now, but I had not felt enough confidence to write anything, until now.

I'm for México and I'm sorrounded by religious people, some moderate, some extremists but the majority of the people, including my whole family is catholic, just like I used to be (or still are if you consider the fact that they just don't let you go so easily, you know since you just can't erase baptism).

I realized I was really and atheist about 2 years… Continue

Hey there. I noticed that you are a young atheist who contributes to Atheist Nexus, and I wanted to quickly tell you about a new project I’m starting up. It’s called Generation Atheist, and it’s a collaborative blog project created for young atheists, agnostics, sceptics, freethinkers and non-theists to come together and explore issues that affect their lives.

It can seem daunting to voice your opinions about religion in the real word, especially if you live in a predominantly theistic community. Many young people think about setting up websites or blogs to get their voices heard, but it can be difficult to find something to write about regularly and to get traffic to your blog. The aim of Gerneration Atheist is for us all to come together and support each other by reading and commenting on each others’ work as well as finding out own voices.

It’s a very new project at the moment, but we have a backlog of articles written by a variety of young people that should last us a couple of weeks, posting one every day. I was hoping that you would check out our group on Atheist Nexus, the link to which is here. From there you can find a link to the blog. It would be really great if you could read the articles as they appear and comment on them. It would be really super great if you wrote an article of your own!

Estoy bastante sorprendido.
