"Thanks Kristy, Joey and unholyroller. The essay about Jesus being a schizophrenic shows that someone had thought about the idea long before it dawned on me. I agree that it needs a new look and from a clinical point of view. The only problem is that…"

"This is a fascinating idea that I think could and should be developed further. There's an essay here that attempts it. I'd love to see you have a serious go at developing this theory, using your medical knowledge. It seems likely to me…"

I met Jesus: he was a schizophrenic and I put him away

MEETING JESUSI met Jesus last week. Or at least a poor, unwell patient who thought he was the Son of God. The disconcerting thing for me was that he looked like the images that adorn Christian art. He was tall, fair, had piercing blue eyes and a very regal manner. He had long fingers that he used gracefully to express himself. He was quite serene and utterly convincing. His spell came undone because he was a certified paranoid schizophrenic. My interaction with him was in a busy Sydney Emergency…See More

Hi David! Talked to Warren Bonett from Embiggen Books last night. He loves the idea of a chapter on Jesus as schizophrenic. We're co-editing The Australian Book of Atheism to be published in 2010. Those committed to the project include me (history of Australian atheism); Max Wallace (The Purple Economy); Leslie Cannold (bioethicist and author of The Abortion Myth); Colette Livermore (former nun with Mother Teresa's order); Robin Williams (the Science Show); Philip Nitschke; and many more. There may be some small payment but if deciding to take on the project you should consider it as a task done for fun rather than profit. If you're interested, could you please contact Warren at info at embiggenbooks dot com with your email and he will send you out more info on the project.

Cheers, Kris

Hi
Welcome to Atheist Nexus with its 8700 good friends and discussion groups.
Among the groups, try visiting perhaps the busy group “ORIGINS: Universe, Life, Humans, Evolution, Religion.....” with its commonsense discussions.
One is "Proud to be Atheist" (74 posts) seeing that atheists and humanists hold the intellectual firm ground compared with the brainless superstitions of the god followers. Similarly, “Religion is aberrant, atheism is truth” (44 posts).

Hi David. Great to have you as a member of AN. I'd like to invite you to join our Aussie, Kiwi and South Pacific Atheists Group. You will see that we have been quite active in submitting papers to the Human Rights Commission and to the National Human Rights Consultation on various issues to atheists - including euthanasia, which I note is one of your interests. We would love to have someone of your expertise to consult with on future projects.
