A fellow came to me in the street the other day. He said, "Hey Man," "do you mind if I ask you a question?" "Shoot," I said.

Pompeii

Posted on September 21, 2008 at 3:35pm 0 Comments

One member of our family has had a life long dream; to re-visit the ruins of the ancient city of Pompeii in Italy.

This is one of two towns covered by volcanic ash and molten lava which was produced from the 79AD eruption of the Volcanic Mt. Vesuvius.

Having visited the Ruins of Pompeii in its early stages of Archological digs during his Navy Days of the early "60's" he has always had a burning desire to return.

Finances however do not permit him to make the… Continue

During a near death expeierence suffered by the Author, Doug Harrington on March 08, 1995, he actually traveled through the Infamous Tunnel that all religous fanatics are so insistant in glorifying.

This inspired the Book {The Fear of Living} which is based on the near Death Expierence that took place in American Samoa, a United States Territory located 14deg. South of the Equator. {Well known as Pago pago}

"The New Order of Hawkeyes Divine Deliverance"

Posted on July 27, 2008 at 2:00am 5 Comments

"The New Order of Hawkeyes Divine Deliverance" is designed to afford a vessel for those who are strapped by either Culture, Religion, or for lack of counsuling on the subject of Free Thinking.

In American Samoa, the poor people are being bled of their meager earnings in the name of God, Jesus, Religion, and Culture.

These people do not stand a chance of standing up for themselves as individuals when it comes down to selection between Christianaty, and Free Thinking.

Hi Doug! Sorry I've been slack in getting back to you. I've been ill for the past 10 days with my damned Chronic Fatigue, but I'm feeling a lot better today. Will try to catch up with your column and blogs in the next day or so. So great to see you here. Hugs, Kris

Sorry I haven't responded earlier, but I am at a computer all day so when I am at home I don't get on much. Anyway, thanks for welcoming me. I have been looking for a community of Atheists I guess you could say. I used to get on the chat at About.com a number of years ago, but it got very hateful,so I quit chatting. It only takes a few to ruin it for everybody. I did met some like minded people that I enjoyed chatting with. Debbie

Doug, my background isn't quite as harsh as yours. I was born and raised in Dayton, Ohio. My parents are originally from West Virginia, but from Mingo County, a more backwoods part of WV then where I live now. They are still pretty secluded there. My parents moved to Dayton for employment as WV has never had much in the way of jobs except for coal mines and my dad had no desire to be a miner. Anyway he got the opportunity to manage a grocery store in Beckley and so when I was in high school we moved to WV. As far as religion my mother was raised a Baptist but doesn't really believe in anything, though she doesn't say that she doesn't believe, the only comment she makes is "When your dead, your dead". I think that explains it all. Growing up in Dayton my mother sent me and my sisters to a Baptist church close to the house. We could walk over. Now that I reflect on it and I don't remember her going, I have come to the conclusion that she just sent us to get rid of us for awhile. I listened to their messages but never did see or feel or believe what they where talking about. I did have a Sunday school teacher who commented every time that everyone was baptised except Debbie. But she never got me. So as an adult I didn't explore the issue nor did I attend church. Then my husband started going to a chrismatic church so I attended with him once and frankly told him that he was free to go but I wouldn't attend, that I would not be free to be myself as an unbeliever, a progressive and as a women's libber. So we explored other churches till he came to the conclusion it was just a bunch of crap. We occassionally go to the UUA, they are a mixed bag of individuals who don't care what you believe as everyone believes or disbelieves differently from everyone else. I could tell you about the co-worker who hated me for being an "unbeliever" but that is another story. Debbie

Nice to hear from you again Debbie.
It sounds like you and your husband hit a happy medium, which is by far the best way to go as far as I am concerned.
My wife and I are both Card Carrying Atheiests with American Atheist.
I am trying to get "The New Order of Hawkeyes Divine Deliverance" off the ground here in order to allow these that wish to do so, a chance to converse freely on my blog, or by mail.
People here are badgered by both Culture, and the Churches, with 90% of them wishing they had never seen the inside of a church building.
They are really not afforded free speech, nor are they permitted to live their lives as free thinkers.
I have been here for the past 22 years, and I truly rfeel for some of the native samoans in this respect.
You can go to my blog, and I would appreicate your comments.

My Father worked the Mines for a long while before plugging his way north, to end up in Pennsylvania, which is where His last kid was born; {Me} Ha Ha.

Hi Doug,

The Atheist community back here is tiny, but it's starting to get more vocal. I foresee a lot of activity in the next few months, particularly because of the increased participation of the Catholic church in government affairs.

Thanks Ramon;
Here there is a different church on every corner.
The Catholics, and the Congregational Christian Church of American Samoa, and the Assembly of God, are the main ones tjhat like to exploit the Poor people by demanding of them more than they can afford.
Lets keep in touch, and do by all means stay in touch with Kristy on the Aussie Net work.
Later Ramon;

Pope's 'exorcism' caught on film video

Posted by Debra Stevenson on May 21, 2013 at 2:37pm 0 Comments

There is a video of the Pope's 'exorcism' caught on film.  The man isn't demon possessed, there are likely no 'real' demons.  He's just delusional and doesn't want to accept personal responsiblity for his own behavior for his own dysfunctional life.

Do you support 'traditional' marriage, vot now ad

Posted by Debra Stevenson on May 21, 2013 at 2:28pm 2 Comments

There is an ad that reads ' Do you support 'traditional' marriage? Vote Now"!  .

No, I don't support 'traditional' marriage because there is no such thing. I support heterosexual and same-sex couples marry each other legally , yes.  'Traditional' marriage promoters largely do not believe that heterosexual women are co-equal to their husbands.  Their only purpose in 'traditional' marriage is to sexually satisfy their husbands if they can and raise children and do all…

My first funeral as an atheist

Posted by Two Cult Survivor on May 21, 2013 at 11:30am 0 Comments

I posted the bulk of this on another thread, but wanted to add some context separately.

I finally confronted my faith and embraced the fact of my atheism late last August, 2012. Days after I revealed my "epiphany" to a few friends who knew me from another message board, my sister died from Lou Gehrig's Disease (which pissed her off because she hated catching a disease from someone she never f---ed).

THAT was my sister, understand? She was a beautiful, life-loving, potty-mouthed…
