Object of the Week - Epsilon Eridani

For this week we have an interesting star system, Epsilon Eridani (ε Eri). It is located low in the southern sky for northern hemisphere observers. The star is a K2 type star which means it is slightly smaller and cooler in temperature than our sun which is a G2 type star. It is the third closest naked eye star at 10 1/2 light-years. ε Eri is suspected, but so far unconfirmed, to harbor at least 2 giant planets,… Continue

Accommodation

Accommodation. It sounds like a nice word, doesn't it? It is for the most part a nice word when used in most context. There is one case however that I feel it is not such a nice word. It is when it leads to the compromising of important ideals to be politically correct.

The case in point is an initiative by the National Center for Science Education (NCSE) called t… Continue

Object of the Week - Flaming Star Nebula

No, this weeks object is not Richard Simmons with gas, it is a challenging object to observe in the winter sky. IC 405 (RA:5h16m12.00s DE:+34°16'00.0") is a reflection nebula located in the constellation Auriga (Aur). Nick named the flaming star nebula because of its close association with the variable star… Continue

Here is why that argument does not fly: That same voice in their head's tells them that scientist is not a good "Christian" or "Muslim" or whatever.
