Yes I watched the first series when I was 14 or 15 and it had a significant impact on me - well to the point of nudging me in a direction I was already going.

Okay. So I kept reading, and honestly I feel that I need to point out a few things. Just so we're clear, O'Reilly is a douche. And his point is made very poorly, so the satire is definitely merited, BUT his point is a valid one and a very…

Stephen Colbert is a what?

If you are aware of how politics run in the United States, then you certainly know who Stephen Colbert is In case you don't know, Colbert is a satirist who parodies right-wing attitudes and criticizes them. Of course, he also takes on liberals sometimes, but conservatives tend to give more material for satire. Like this:…See More

@Johan: I think I see your point. I often also just shrug down the references to God people around me do without thinking (like, thank God that such and such), but if there is a conversation about religion or someone wants to say something more,…

Oops, I shoulda read this before I posted my blog. I understand your point, Diego, if someone is going completely apeshit anti-religion but doesn't have the decency to do it under their own name is a little iffy, but not all of us…

I use a fake name on Facebook solely to keep my family in the dark about my beliefs. Call me coward, chicken or whatever, but I simply do not want a confrontation while I'm still living in my parents' house. Doing so would undoubtedly…

With every controversial aspect of my life (not just atheist but also bisexual, polyamorous, and I'm sure I could think of others) I am somewhat open; don't shout it out all the time (I don't want to be known for being solely these…

I am forthright in my own statement of non-beliefs and regularly refer people to my own blog to clarify my position on faith, at the same time I attend church on special occassions and keep my mouth shut when I adjudge the moment inappropriate to…

About Me
I'm an agnostic that leans to atheist.

I came to the USA 3 years ago, looking for a life with better values, more opportunities and more respect among people. In a sense, I found that. The country from which I come, Perú, is a poor country in which living is a struggle for most of its citizens. Poverty makes it easier for ignorance to flourish, so religion is present in most of the peruvian people. Atheists and agnostics are very few, homosexuals have to live hiding, as most of those who don't agree with the traditional way of life, legated from the catholic spaniards that conquered our land, 5 centuries ago.

While I don't hate my country, I live a happier life in the US, in which I have found more and better opportunities. I do think of it as the land of opportunities and freedom. Still, there is a lot of work to be done, specially regarding separation of church and state. In the US I've found the most outspoken atheists as well as the most hardcore christians. I think this is a good enviroment for enlightement to grow and for people to stop following the biggotry and intolerance that religion leads to.

Online "closet" atheists annoy me. Does that happen to you?

Posted on December 26, 2010 at 7:57pm 11 Comments

Yes they do. I don't hate them, but there is something in them that makes me feel sort of uneasy.

I have counted myself among those without religion for quite some time. I'm pretty open about it and I'm always eager to talk about it when the occasion is right (which isn't all the time, of course). So, as much as I'm open about it "in real life", I'm open about it online. I don't hide my name, nor my face and whoever wants to find me online can do it with a couple of clicks.…

Update on "What if I prayed": A boy died today.

Some days ago I posted a case of a pastor friend of mine who had his son very sick.

Well, Today December 24 my friend the pastor had to see his son be disconnected from the machine that kept him alive. After many week of anguish and of seeing that child fight between life and death, science could do nothing.

But what about God? If we…

So, you wan't a war on Christmas...

Posted on December 23, 2010 at 7:25pm 2 Comments

(ORIGINALLY PUBLISHED IN SU NOMBRE EN VANO)

In the United States there is a widespread idea that there is an ongoing "war on Christmas" waged by atheists and in general, people who prefer a secular government in which every person has the same rights. As usual, this idea is proposed by the whiny religious right (mainly conservative Christians).

Sometimes they will…
