Are you dreading the start of the Christmas season?

Posted on November 24, 2012 at 11:00pm 10 Comments

With Thanksgiving behind us, (& its glorification of overeating), we're officially into the Christmas season with its emphasis on overconsumption and the supposed birth of a god's son.  What a waste of time and money, especially considering all the pressing planetary problems.  Ho ho, I wish it were all over.

Dick, I agree teachers should be required to adhere to the separation of church and state.  I think they became a little emboldened by the Tea Party fundies but after the results of the last election, hopefully they are getting the message.

Welcome, Dick.  How are you able to separate your young people from their cell phones and computer games?

I agree with David Roberts, in The moral logic of climate communication, that it's vital to also communicate the emotional message of Climate Destabilization, not just the cold facts.

BTW, if you ever discuss that issue in your environment education, feel free to use my twitter links as an example of one such attempt. I think that when lots of people create their own media examples expressing the feelings that will accompany the predicted consequences of a 6 to 8 degree C rise, political will to reinvent our economy for sustainability will finally arise.

Welcome, Dick! Glad you could join us. :D I'm happy to see you've already found groups of interest.

Please consider joining a group to meet people and talk about anything that's on your mind, Hang With Friends. I also recommend Atheist Teachers and Climate Concerns.

After you've searched for topics of interest in "Groups" above and in the "Forums", don't forget to look at recent activity which hides along the right margin of the page all the way at the bottom.

On a personal note, I've developed an animated gif technique, sort of “pull quote marries slideshow”. Samples are scattered across various groups, but you can find them easily by going to my twitter account. Each tweet has a link (after the description and before the hashtags) to a visually rich example here at Atheist Nexus. If you like them, please follow me

Hello Dick

Welcome to this world of rationality and peace, where pure common sense is enough to lead to the open freethinking wisdom of non-believers.

We invite you to join the busy group "ORIGINS: Universe, Astronomy, Life, Earth, Humans, Religion, Gods, Atheism, Evolution, Darwin..." with 700 discussion topics and 3600 members.
