Looking for atheism based peace groups

Does anyone know of any atheism based peace groups?Preferably atheistic, socialistic, scientific, technological, secular humanist and future looking. I worked with several groups before I made the jump to full atheist, but they all are either Luddite or religious. Religion will never bring people together enough for peace and I like technology, science and transhumanism/futurism. See More

ISS starting to experiment with robotic refueling

The ISS started actual experimentation on the ability to refuel and repair objects in orbit. They sent a module on the last shuttle mission and it went completely active on March 7, 2012. Its a great step forward on the subject of a more permanent presence in space because the project will allow for refueling objects in orbit.Remote Refueling in Space gets a start…See More

Religion is antibiotic

Posted on January 28, 2012 at 8:14am 1 Comment

I came up with this last night right before bed. I think it sums up the problem with religion perfectly.

'anti' means opposed or against.

'biotic' is from the Greek word 'biotikos' which means "fit for life."

Religion is opposed to being fit for life.

It is opposed to a real understanding of the world and the universe which allow science and technology.

It is opposed to doing the right things for life to proceed because it is so focused on…

Call for Resignation of Richard Floyd for calling for violence against the transgendered.

Posted on January 27, 2012 at 6:09pm 4 Comments

Hi, State Rep. Richard Floyd threatened to "stomp a mudhole" into any transgender woman who uses a public restroom in Tennessee. "Stomp a mudhole," according to Urban Dictionary, means "To tear someone a new ass, to beat them to near death or to otherwise hurt someone to the point that they can not fight back." We cannot tolerate such hate! That's why I signed a petition to The Tennessee State House, The Tennessee State Senate, and Governor Bill Haslam, which says: "State Rep. Richard Floyd…

Religious laws being encoded in Tennessee

Posted on January 27, 2012 at 1:30pm 7 Comments

We have to find another place to live. Tennessee is getting more and more like a religious theocracy run by bigotted morons.

We have the don't say gay law which would make it impossible to discuss anything about homosexuality in school.

A couple of weeks ago we had the potty police bill which was supposed to limit people to the bathroom of the gender they were born in.

Last year we had bills proposed to the state congress which would exempt…

Neosocialism - My New Philosophy.

Posted on January 19, 2012 at 10:23am 14 Comments

I have started a blog on Wordpress where I can start working on and promoting Neosocialism. The goal of Neosocialism is to develop a philosophy which combines atheism, socialism, information freedom with scientific and technological progress. The goal is to develop and implement a new vision for the future of humanity in space.

The current economic, social and government systems are inappropriate for a life in space and for the future. If we all them to proceed then humanity is doomed…

Hi Dee,

Love your blog. Love the lists.

After reading your blog about the cost of education per child in the good old US of A, I looked up the cost of the war in Afghanistan.

$300 million a day

http://www.google.com/hostednews/afp/article/ALeqM5gNQ3JbWwd6t-PzkuECkRJvsAlNkA

Ouch. that's a lot of money.

Another article I read says it's only(?) 165 million a day.

Welcome to Atheist Nexus!

Nexus has many ways for members to be involved, make friends, learn, and express yourself.   The welcome center is composed of Nexus volunteers, sort of like greeters at your favorite store.

Get to know people with similar interests by searching on Groups.  Use the search box on the Groups page, or browse through the many pages of groups, to see what's there.  There are Nexus groups for various states, cities, countries, ideas of personal expression, hobbies, and many other groups.  Get to know people based on what you enjoy, or what you have in common with others.

Ongoing forum discussions are of more general interest than the groups.  Switch toforum categories for a somewhat organized format.

MeetupTo find local groups and make friends or chat, Meetup.com is a great place to locate groups or start one.  (note, Meetup is not connected to AN).  Join Meetup and search on a key word, such as atheist, atheism, skeptics, freethought, to see if there is a local group.

Support nexus by going to Amazon.com through the site (see the amazon box on the right).  Buying from Amazon via the Nexus site does not increase your cost, but results in a small fee going to Nexus.

Terms of service helps you know the "rules".  You can also find the TOS on the bottom right of the main screen.

The right sidebar shows recent posting activities and discussions by Nexus members.  Click on "more" at the bottom for additional activities by members.

If you have general questions about how Nexus works, how to find what you want, or other questions, feel free to ask me or another volunteer member of the Welcome center!

Enjoy!
