No matter what your political leanings might be we should all be able to agree that the current American Values Network campaign is horrendous. Their…Continue

Roy, I have no problem with that at all. Jason is correct a God that alternates between playing hide and seek and search and destroy is far from impressive. :)

Roy, Another thing you might point out since they are quoting scripture is that according to scripture God is an untrustworthy bastard. God admits to being deceptive. Check out Ezekiel 14:9 and Thesselonians II 2:11 among others. A supreme being who…

Roy, Gravity can be measured. Various experiments have confirmed its existence. It can be observed, though indirectly. It is quantifiable in various ways. How do you quantify/measure God. What experiments have been or can be conducted to determine…

D.O.S replied to Dallas Gaytheist's discussion 'I Don't Believe in Atheists, by Chris Hedges' in the group Nexus Book Club
That basically concedes a number of myths and stereotypes. What does atheism have to do with fundamentalism or imperialism. Atheist individuals can be either of those but not atheism. And he does care where it comes from. He intentionally…

I wonder if we offer ourselves for adoption will they pay our bills for us? Didn't Hemant Mehta (not sure if spelled his name right) already sell his soul on e-bay?

Research on Absolute Zero. The idea that absolute nothingness is probably not even possible is fascinating to me. The fact that we have not been able to produce the lowest possible temperature, on at which even sub-atomic particles cease motion is…

Hey Dallas, I read that piece of shit when it first came out. Saying I was very disappointed with Hedges would be  gross understatement. I'd read various articles and another book by him previously so I had a good impression of him. The…

How about Happy Incest Day. God the "Father" did fuck his own mother in order to give birth to himself, the "Son." And lets not forget the cheating aspect. Mary was supposed to be engaged to Joseph at that point. There's…

Ditto. He should apologize for being such a waste of human flesh.

D.O.S replied to Hugh Kramer's discussion 'Deepak Chopra apologizes to Richard Dawkins' in the group Atheist News
My first thought was that his most recent books aren't selling well. I usually prefer giving people the benefit of the doubt but Chopra has proven himself to be a media whore and charlatan over and over again. I just see this as another of his…

D.O.S replied to suzanne Buzz's discussion 'Should people get their morals from a loving new testament Jesus? But disregard Yahweh and genocide?' in the group ORIGINS: UNIVERSE, LIFE, HUMANKIND, AND DARWIN
There are numerous passages where he comes across as a complete dick. He routinely insults his own disciples. He makes a woman beg and agree to become one of his followers before healing her child. He curses and kills a fig tree for not yielding…

I understand the arguments for it I'm just not convinced the good that may result can out weigh the negatives that will result.   I wrote a short blog post on this topic just recently.

I would also like to find a good source that addresses the theopolitical propaganda in the Old Testament. What was the relationship between a temple complex in Jerusalem, royal dynasties, and the changing religious beliefs of those power centres and…

About Me
I am married with two children. I consider myself to have always been an atheist. I didn't really know there was a label for my lack of belief until Middle School. It wasn't until after undergraduate studies that I was really aware of anything resembling an atheist community. I didn't know my father was an atheist until I got to high school. He preferred to let my brother and I (we are both atheists) to figure things out on our own. I agree with that approach. I agreed to let my two be raised Catholic with the understanding that that is just one way to view things and I will correct anything I see as blatantly ignorant. I have pointed out to the oldest that the bible is not literally true.

That's OK Arnab. Much quicker than the second coming of Christ. Wouldn't want to be hanging by the balls waiting for that to happen.
