"There are thousands of debates on youtube. While the theists are not cooperative on a large scale, there are a few that will reach out and start a dialog. This is my current favorite.
AronRa answers sesstreets questions. (AronRa always has a lot to…"
"I was lucky enough to download the Hitchens/Craig debate before it disappeared.
Early in the debate, Craig "proved" that Jesus was resurrected because it was such an ubelievable thing to say that the disciples wouldn't have said it…"
"I love that man too Jack. Hitchens destroyed them. The moderator was a pity, Lane Craig was ANNOYING as usual and stupid. He reminds me of a character in Fight Club that Tyler questions after discovering who he really was. I believe he was a…"
"I've actually turned off the comments box on my youtube account because I can't stand youtube comment debates -- which is what I mistakenly thought this thread was about.
On favorite debates I like the little clip of Chris Hitchens at the…"
Hello all,Since You tube started up I've found it to be the most amazing source for online debate videos. I wanted to start this discussion because I'd like to know if anyone here (I'm sure most if not all of you) watches debates between atheists and theists and which one happens to be your favourite. The other reason is after watching these debates I've discovered something that's missing when I watch them, but I'm not sure if I'm wrong in my assessment.First of all my favourite debates are…See More
"I'm an arab atheist...born in Egypt and grew up in Canada. I support and hope all arabs would be atheists. I think the addition of rationality to our richly cultured lives would make for a wonderful new way of life for the region and the world…"
"I've been on 2 debate based atheist forums before I joined this group and from my experience I would say the thing that really gets them is what parts of the bible do they believe is literal and what parts do they take as allegory. If they…"
"The thing about Dawkins that may make him seem arrogant to you is that the subject of attacking God/religion exclusively is not his forte. I'm not sure if you've read other books by him, but like you I found the God delusion not as alive…"
"My first influential books were 1984 (Orwell), Demian (Herman Hesse) and Answer to Job (Carl Jung). Demian scratched the surface and answer to job just dug in. After that I started reading all kinds of books including Nietzche, Camus and Ayn…"
"T O O L is first and foremost for me...They have been one of the most influential force that helped me break free from religion. Undertow and Aenima are my favourite albums, but I love everything they do and stand for.
After that I would say RUSH,…"
David, You're welcome.
I think that the forum section has a discussion area for introduction. THat is a good place. THere is a former fundamentalist group as well. That can be good, but posting in the group means that the only people who respond would be members of that group, although visible to all.
I have a personal interest in knowing people who cross cultural boundaries, either by choice or by birth. I grew up in a closed minded and culturally isolated environment and hated it. Half a lifetime later, I still hate visiting there. People who cross those boundaries are much more interesting, and I think have insight and intelligence (and often humor) that you dont find otherwise. Anyway, that's my bias.
I'm hoping to see more of you on A|N| I also like to see people smile.
Welcome to A|N! I hope that you will stick around, express yourself, find some interesting groups to join, and make some online friends. It would be great to hear more about your religious experiences and how you have learned from them. Glad to have you here!
With all the media attention the on the Pope, important stories are being missed, human rights violations, Monsanto protection act, Russia march to blasphemy laws, and of the big story this week did Harry Potter vanquish dementors?See More
"The medical profession seems to have improved in some areas at least. Personally I think some of that is due to the higher level of education of society as a whole. We know too much to put up with bad treatment now. I saw a documentary last year…"
"Thanks. Now I have "Glory of Love" stuck in my head. ^^;
I'm not sure if I could get used to eating bugs. It's like... if they're mudbugs or sea-bugs, that's one thing, but it's hard to imagine them tasting good…"
"I converted to paganism (through wicca, but didn't stay there) from xianity. During that conversion period, I tried to reconcile the beliefs, which ultimately, I couldn't. There are some who find a way (probably used to cherry picking, so…"
