I just wanted to say, I was disgusted by your choice to show up to the lecture yesterday. i've not only followed you, but have spoken to you on many occasions. I never thought you would be as selfish and disrespectful to show up intoxicated, and then further to bash other's religion+race. Not only where you a sore eye, but just embarrassing, for those couple of hours, you really made me sick to my stomach, when you entered the door, with your black Trench Coat, i whispered to my friends, and gloated about how i knew who you where...later i wish i hadn't known you. Thank you.

Your story was at least part of the inspiration for a new group, to promote conversation regarding race, ethnicity, and culture. I hope that it is OK that I referenced you. It's too early for a critical mass yet. I'm hoping for some bridge-building conversations. It would be great if you checked it out and even joined in - your experiences and insights would be very meaningful.

After reading the Orlando Sentinel article that you recommended, I can't help adding some comments. I read it twice.
I became angry when I read it. This was a form of child abuse. I try to put myself into the place of other people, but your mother's racism is shocking. I can't go back and know whether your conception was the result of love, seduction, sexual curiosity, or date rape. Possibly even your mother doesn't know for certain. Maybe a mixture. But once a child is born, a parent's responsiblity is to prepare them for life - no matter how that child was conceived. Denial of the obvious, perpetuating a web of lies in hopes of..... what? did nothing to prepare you for the life ahead.

Near the end of the article, you comment something to the effect that the future lies in racial mixing. I think that there is a lot of truth in that. Once people know that humanity is not "either this or that" but rather we are all infinite variations on the same theme, maybe people can put some of the lies to rest. Plus, that mixing results in an intimate familiarity that makes "us/them" a much less justifiable dichotomy.

You have had quite a journey. There is still a journey ahead. I'll look forward to getting to know you better.
