Hey thanks DR!
As I mentioned in a recent comment about my own blog--It's nice to have people read what I write and explain their similarities and differences in rationale rather than categorically list all the reasons I'm going to hell. When I ask folks intuitive questions about their beliefs, mostly when they are just as apt to subsequently tell me what is and what is not, I fight the urge to punch them in the nose when they tell me they feel sorry for me because I don't have FAITH. I have faith that this right hook is going to spoil your day fine sir! Side note: I've been challenged to fights by fundamentalist Christians and always back down. The sense of victory I receive when they are left to stew in their own hippocritical stupidity is better than any right hook I've EVER thrown.

Thanks for your encouragement D.R. That response on the existence of JC was my first effort and it's gratifying to know someone's acknowledging my thoughts. Though I'm a teacher, I'm not an academic scholar and I believe people can get bogged down in the detail. While it's generally sound advice to 'Know thy enemy', I don't think it's necessary to read the bible at all to dismiss it as a hotchpotch of obscure geneologies, self-righteous ancient Hebrew myth and superstition, though it does have its poetry and purple passages, and dare I say even humaneness here and there.

As some commentators have already noted, it doesn't matter if the image of Christ is based on one or more people who historically existed, and how much of the biographical detail is true. It's the notion that he was any kind of supernatural deity that needs addressing. It's simply impossible. Simply.

To me, the question of the existence of God really is a simple one, a 'no-brainer'. He made the world in six days and rested on the seventh. RESTED! Who wants to believe in an all-powerful god who gets TIRED? What if he's tired when I'm praying? So the bible hoists itself on its own petard in the very first chapter of Genesis.

Anyway, don't wish to preach to the converted. I'm glad to accept you as a friend in non-theism and will look out for your own contributions with interest. I liked your Huxley quote too. I'd also like to direct you to my second contribution, some comments on the notion of blasphemy. I hope you can find it. I don't know how to navigate the site well yet.
