My Mom Is Frustrating Me

My mom does not respect my non-belief. She insists I go to church with her because all of a sudden her 'house rule' is that "As for me and my house we worship the Lord." To make matters worse the sermon from yesterday was focused on "Bringing children up in the worship" and that you should force you children to go to church. In fact, he said you should have them miss school before they miss church. I'm becoming increasing angry, frustrated and resentful of her. I never had anything against…See More

Coming Out To My Mom

Posted on December 18, 2009 at 6:59pm 12 Comments

Well about a week ago I came out and told my mom I was an Atheist. She didn't go off like I expected her to but she is none too pleased to say the least. She and I had a debate on Sunday when she had woke me up (ironically to go to church) and asked me then and there if I believed in God. Instinct told me to lie and say yes, but she said don't say it if it isn't true and I confessed. She heard me out and tried to argue me down. A couple of days later she asked me if I was ok with the fact that… Continue

Atheist Authors, Biology, and Physics

I would like to read more books about Atheism and also some about sciences so I can understand and know more about what scientist are discovering. I only know of the basics of subjects such as evolution and the big bang theory. But I want to know what other things scientists are saying about our origins and get a deeper understanding about what little I do know. Does anyone have any Atheist authors or books about any of these things? Hopefully in the form of an ebook or article? I can't go to… Continue

Ah, yes. The happiness that came with letting go of the belief in god is amazing.

You might want to write a blog here about your de-conversion story, so you won't have to repeat it to everyone. Have you 'come-out' to your family members?

Ouch.

I kind of had to cry my way out of going to church. My parents rarely bother me about it now, but they say my aunts and uncle ask for me when they don't see me in church. I haven't told my extended family yet. I will tell them, if the topic ever comes up, and If they want nothing to do with me, I don't mind. I've got my immediate family, and that's enough for me :).

It took a while for me to 'come-out' to them, but I left hints (try that if you haven't) before that. I kept trying to get my mom to read www.evilbible.com, but she would have nothing to do with it. I told her to get her own bible and read it, but still nothing. Oh well... My dad is more of a 'social-christian'. Goes to church to meet people/ see his brother and sister. He knows the history of religion, but chooses to go with it, because of its convenience. -_-

Ah I see.

There are many reasons why I don't believe. One being no evidence for a god. Another being, if there was a loving god, why does he allow suffering to happen on this earth?...stuff like that. How about you?

If your dad wants you to read the bible, then read this one. Have him read it too. He might find the real truth that you already know.

No worries. IMO You've been very brave in coming out to your family with your lack of belief and what little I have to offer in terms of online transatlantic camaraderie as fellow atheist is yours to have. :-)

Pope's 'exorcism' caught on film video

Posted by Debra Stevenson on May 21, 2013 at 2:37pm 0 Comments

There is a video of the Pope's 'exorcism' caught on film.  The man isn't demon possessed, there are likely no 'real' demons.  He's just delusional and doesn't want to accept personal responsiblity for his own behavior for his own dysfunctional life.

Do you support 'traditional' marriage, vot now ad

There is an ad that reads ' Do you support 'traditional' marriage? Vote Now"!  .

No, I don't support 'traditional' marriage because there is no such thing. I support heterosexual and same-sex couples marry each other legally , yes.  'Traditional' marriage promoters largely do not believe that heterosexual women are co-equal to their husbands.  Their only purpose in 'traditional' marriage is to sexually satisfy their husbands if they can and raise children and do all…

My first funeral as an atheist

Posted by Two Cult Survivor on May 21, 2013 at 11:30am 0 Comments

I posted the bulk of this on another thread, but wanted to add some context separately.

I finally confronted my faith and embraced the fact of my atheism late last August, 2012. Days after I revealed my "epiphany" to a few friends who knew me from another message board, my sister died from Lou Gehrig's Disease (which pissed her off because she hated catching a disease from someone she never f---ed).

THAT was my sister, understand? She was a beautiful, life-loving, potty-mouthed…
