I actually had the good fortune to meet Douglas Adams many years ago (around 1990) when he visited our university radio station for an interview. (I got him to autograph all his books.) I introduced him to the H2G2 newsgroup on the Internet of which he was only vaguely aware - the newsgroup, that is. (The 'net was very primitive at that time.) Apart from being a nice person, he was so tall!
Maybe the idea is better than the reality, but I think it would be wonderful to live in such an interesting part of the world as Dartmoor. That said, do you teach at a private or public school (don't know the nomenclature for the education systems in the UK)?
Anyway, glad to make your acquaintance. Keep in touch. I'll let you know if and when I can put together a holiday in the Southwest. When my wife and I have visited in the past, we have usually alighted in Haytor Vale or Chagford. I am hopeful we will get back to the UK soon. Of course, given the markets/exchange rates, etc., when that will be is unknown.
Below is photo of me taken Last October at Saddle Tor, nr Haytor. Don't know if the photo will come through (first attempt at posting a photo on this site.)
Great to see someone in Newton Abbott. Have walked in Dartmoor many times (last time was 2007.) Probably my favorite place in England. Wish I could get back there, but the exchange rate these days is brutal! Maybe next year. Greetings from the USA.
