I met some Jehovah's Witnesses today, kept them on my doorstep until it started raining on them, while I was all nice and dry in my porch. I was actually a bit worse for wear, having downed several large whiskeys (single-malt, no rubbish!), but…

Its sounds like talking, but it ain't coming from the mouth? I can't help thinking this guy was abused as a child, by a big black mamba; and if not then he definitely should be. Homophobic prick!
My dad and I have drawn a lot of parallels between Matt Smith and the 2nd Doctor Patrick Troughton. He's a bit of a hyperactive buffoon, keen on bow-ties, weird habits, young Scottish companion. A lot of the the plots in this latest series…
The various degrees/levels of love/caring, sex, and friendship are three or probably more than three separate entities, and it is not the case that any one person in your life has to provide more than one of these things/levels/entities.

I'd like to know if there are any Atheists in this group based in Staffordshire? For the past 3 years I've been looking for some indication of an atheist presence in this county and although national statistics show that Staffordshire is teeming with non-belief there seems to be very few people who are willing to make their presence known. One possible explanation is that Staffordshire consists mostly of small towns and villages isolated by large patches of rural countryside, with large…See More
Hmm, well I'm certainly for stopping them from having political influence outside that of any other citizen; as for disproportionate wealth, I'm not actually sure what amount is proportionate. Certainly people should not be expected to…
As freethinking sceptics and scientifically minded secularists we have no cause to believe in the supremacy of supernatural deities, nor the existence of spirits and ghouls, souls or an afterlife. By extension, is not the notion of hereditary privilege and divine right - as embodied by the British monarchy - also anachronistic and absurd, in the extreme, in an country that claims to be a democracy? Is it not the height of iniquity to expect the citizens of a nation to pay out of their own…See More
It's long past time I bulked out my profile, so what can I say about myself?
Nothing good as it happens. Perhaps I shouldn't say anything at all, it can only darken your opinion of me.
I guess you could call me an intellectual "drifter" who never took life seriously because he thought he'd kill himself in high-school. Despairing of the human condition.
I was never a goth, at least not outwardly; instead I projected all life's little grevances inward and let them build up.
This resulted in a minor altercation which lead to my seeking medical attention for manic-depression.
After a year of therapy (personal and group) and medication I'm back in circulation.
What has this to do with religion? -Nothing. Not even in my darkest moments could I actually convince myself that a benevolent god was up there looking out for me and if it weren't for my unwaiving conviction that this life is the only life, I'd probably be dead by now.
I've had my occasional backslides, wherein I've found myself entertaining, perhaps even believing in a pantheistic or deistic force whose unfathomable nature conceived the creation of the universe; but that belief was blasted to smithereens by Richard Dawkins's AMAZING book The God Delusion.
It gave me a new impetus, a direction, of sorts and it is for that reason that I count myself a New Atheist despite having been a godless heathen for most of my life.

Greetings, Christopher! I notice you haven't been active at Atheist Nexus lately. <sigh> Sometimes it can seem a bit fragmented, with different groups for every interest. Please consider a group for socializing, where we talk about whatever's on our minds,Hang With Friends . :D You might feel more at home.
Hi, Christopher. I've just finished watching the whole thread and William's videos too and I can't thank you enough. Tim Minchin is my new favourite comedian, hands down! Cheers :-)
Thanks for that response, and for the friendship add. I will respond to your comment a little later, in private. I'll send you a message as soon as I can.
I sympathise, that's all familiar to me, albeit has a heterosexual man I crave validity from women; though my life, situation, personality and general demeanour lead me to think I shall never achieve such validation or happiness. - there's only one way out when you give up on happiness and I contemplate it everyday.
Why do you think that is? Why do we, as people, need to feel validated from other people? Is it just because we are social animals?
Hello
Welcome to Atheist Nexus with its >11,000 good friends and discussion groups.
Among the groups, may I suggest you try the busy group “ORIGINS: Universe, Life, Humans, Evolution, Religion.....” with its 180 commonsense topics whose discussions rebuff religious nonsense. You will be welcome to this group that I founded 12 months ago.
