we are thinking about starting a free thinkers meet up group soon in STL. no agenda really, just have a bunch of people around that want to be surrounded by people with similar beliefs and rationale. Ill let you know when we get together if you're interested.

Well good luck with the bio degree..good choice. What is your husband specializing in his bio degree? I love Biology. My thesis had to do with the molecular mechanisms that allow the malaria parasite to recognize and enter red blood cells. Here is the published work. I could have been first author but decided not to, mainly because I had a fall out with my thesis advisor. She was a catholic and her and I just didn't get along once she found out I was an atheist and started googling my name and finding all my stuff online..anyway here is my thesis published. Glycophorn B as the receptor for EBL-1.pdf

I was born and raised catholic in Italy. But my catholicism was not very strong ever. As a matter of fact, jesus used to scare me to death!!! But I was never a born again christian, nor bought into the apologetics or anything. I was more of a catholic lite...then in college I sort of became an apathetic atheist, not really caring...but after the 2000 election of W. bush and after reading and getting active in politics, I realized how much the xtian right was trying to hijack our political system as well as our educational system. I have a masters in biology and cannot stand the idea that creationists are trying to interject their flawed lies into our educational system. This along with an ex girlfriend of mine who was very smart led me to be who I am today. I became active because I think we need to stand up for our rights and we need to be loud and vocal about it. This is the only way to make change happen.

It definitely helps to have someone to talk to. I have been talking to and hopefully helping someone who was an evanglical christian since a very young age. He is going through a very hard time, but is happy he made the choice to leave the fold. If you have questions, I may also be able to help. :)
