The church nearest to us turns out to be "reformed catholic." That's nice to know- it's not affiliated with the vatican. I looked at the web page, and it has its own thrift store, and a youth club…Continue

Christine replied to MattyLJ's discussion are you inclined to torture yourself?

Christine replied to Bertold Brautigan's discussion Interesting Article - 5 Reasons to Suspect Jesus Never Existed
"The lack of evidence never mattered to the religious, hence their faith. While it's interesting from a historical perspective, it doesn't matter. Atheists have to argue whether or not the character Jesus is worth being worshipped. I…"

Christine,

You might really enjoy the Street Epistemology group at https://www.facebook.com/groups/streetepistemology/

There are a lot of smart, articulate people there.  Quite nice too.  If you're interested in finding out more about the Socratic method in practice.

There's a guy who posts videos of his Socratic encounters with religious people, and lots of discussion.

Hi, what "friending" means to me is that I'm ok with exchanging email with the person.  I like your posts and relate to a good deal of what you say.  I'm not ex-religious though.

the cardiologist laughed and said he wasn't being serious, but figured by telling people to drink that much would make them drink just enough
This is truly unacceptable. People can DIE from too much water.  People have died in water-drinking contests.  You were lucky you weren't so dutiful you followed his advice!

I suggest complaining about this cardiologist to the medical board or whatever.  It might save someone's life.
