I come from a Protestant family. My father was a Theologian and Professor at the Free University in Brussels. I have eight brothers and three sisters. Three of the brothers have become Protestant Ministers and the other brothers became scientists and non-believers. My sisters have adopted alternative beliefs which do less harm than religion. So discussions about religion are common during family gatherings. At the age of 16 I became aware that religion was guilty of unacceptable childhood indoctrination and I quickly realized that any basis for religious belief was non-existent. My love for nature and the urge to understand more about the world we live in was an important motivation for me to study geology. I have to add that growing up in a large family has allowed me to think and discuss freely about any subject and that has saved me from the religious indoctrination people normally are subjected to.

The entire state barely…

I saw a video, or a blog post once that listed all the uncomfortable and illogical things that a person must do, according to Jesus' own words, in order to follow him. The list included hating your family, selling all your possessions, etc. I'm pret…
I sometimes wear the customary leather vest with the HOG Miami logo on the back but a closer look reveals the American Atheists and Freedom From Religion Foundation patches on the right rear side. My do-rag has a gold Atheist atom pin on the tail .…
