My bible reading experience (MBRE) - brainfart #2

A quick re-write of Judges 11.34-39;

"And Jephthah came to Mizpeh unto his house, and, behold his daughter came out to meet him with timbrels and with dances: and she was his only child; beside her he had neither son nor daughter.

And it came to pass, when he saw her, that he rent his clothes and proclaimed Alas, my daughter, I promised got that I would burn whatever I saw first on my return as a sacrifice.

And she said to him, WTF are you out of your mind? Get away from…

My bible reading experience - brainfart #1

Posted on March 29, 2012 at 2:28pm 0 Comments

I started a "discussion" in the forum section of this site describing my initial impressions of the old testament, as I have decided to familiarise myself with as many "sacred" texts as possible - I believe in knowing both sides of an argument, and so far my reading has served to strengthen my atheism. I am left wondering "how can anyone actually believe any of this bullshit, let alone WANT to believe in it?!?".

This and subsequent "brainfart" blog posts will serve as my diary…

Hey Thanks for friending me. You said that your Ex is a Mormon, Yes? Do you still have significant contact with her which prompts you to still be concerned about her mental state of mind? I hope that I can help you utilize my knowledge to allow her to come to a better understanding of the world, without the need for an imaginary friend. If that is what you want of course.

Maybe you could ask me specific questions? And I think I should note that if she is having troubles, Religion might not be a bad thing. It might help her cope and escape from reality more. Furthermore I doubt anything that you say will actually convince her to leave the church. A religious person must decide for themselves that their beliefs are baseless. That's what I had to do, and It took me months of sitting in a camping trailer to do it.

Maybe you could show her this documentary. Its broken up into segments on the site because of how Youtube works. I found it very very useful. It helped me understand how my brain was making me believe.

Maybe you could watch it with her and have a discussion if you two are still close enough to do that. I have to warn you that it is very very long. He is continually adding content as well.

Hi Chris -- good to see that you made it here!  Chris and I are friends on a silly little car buff board where we have to jump through all sort of linguistic hoops to avoid touching too heavily on the verbotten topics of religion & politics.  A little more freedom among like minds is nice, ain't it?

Welcome, Chris! Glad you could join us. :D

Please consider joining a group to meet people and talk about anything that's on your mind, Hang With Friends. Personally, I think various "holy" books aren't worth our attention. I'm more interested in using our unshackled minds to re-imagine a sustainable secular future.

After you've searched for stuff that interests you in "Groups" above and in the "Forums", don't forget to look at recent activity which hides along the right margin of the page all the way at the bottom.
