"I think there are people who want to remain "on the fence" so to speak.  They don't really know what they do or don't believe and are likely to make comments such as these."

Glen Rosenberg commented on Charles Miller's blog post Bigotry Against Atheists, From an Atheist.
"The anti-theists among us hate the sin, not the sinner. The notion that anti-theists hate theists stems from ignorance of religious history, current events, ignorance and propaganda. The notion that atheists hate theists stems from the ingredients."

Bigotry Against Atheists, From an Atheist.

This weekend I had a conversation with an Atheist at an informal local meetup that upset me and made me angry. The more I think about it, the angrier I got. What was said boiled down to an assertion that Atheists are hate-filled bigots. Funny thing, if a religious person had said it I wouldn’t be angry. So what was said? It went something like this: (I’ll call the other party “Jack”)Jack said, “I am agnostic, I don’t believe in God, but I don’t hate religious people.”“Jack, that’s not what it…See More

Yesterday embassies in Egypt and Libya attacked. Chris Stevens, the U.S. ambassador to Libya, was killed. Secretary of State Clinton said, "there is never any justification for violent acts of this kind." Why did this happen? Apparently a few found an amateurish video criticizing Islam and its prophet too much to bear.I am not sure what would "fix" this, and I suppose no one does and everyone has their own idea. But I am certain that another war won't change anything.See More

Mitt Romney -- "The Faith of My Fathers" - Part III Is Romney an Obedient Mormon or the Fulfillment of Prophecy?

Mormons are a highly disciplined group, known to follow the dictates of the Church hierarchy with little question.  Mormons believe that the President of their Church is a prophet that receives direct revelations from God.  Direct revelations lead to some startling reversals in Mormon doctrines and practice such as polygamy, though some, including Romney’s paternal grandparents continued to practice it.  Another reversal came in 1978 when the “Prophet” allowed “dark-skinned people” full…See More

Mitt Romney -- "The Faith of My Fathers" - Part II Is Romney a Polytheist?

The last installment compared Mitt Romney’s statement of faith to Kennedy’s address to the Houston Ministerial Association in 1960. This time, we will examine just a few features of Romney’s Mormon faith.     In some ways, Mitt Romney’s situation is similar to Kennedy’s, in others quite different. In Romney’s case there are…See More

Mitt Romney -- "The Faith of My Fathers" - Part I

This post is the first installment of a three-part series examining the question: Is it fair to question Mitt Romney's Mormonism? “[T]he kingdom of God... is to be a POLITICAL INSTITUTION THAT SHALL HOLD SWAY OVER ALL THE EARTH; TO WHICH ALL OTHER GOVERNMENTS WILL BE SUBORDINATE AND BY WHICH THEY WILL BE DOMINATED.” B.
