I've been a doubter for most of my life, surrounded by family and other people who held such a great respect (or fear) of Jebus and gawd, I just never saw what all the fuss was about, it looked fishy to me from the very beginning, but, I continued to try to understand it, and put it into perspective with what I saw in the world around me, I was stuck in the "All religions are equally valid" camp for a little while, before realizing that the last word in that should have been invalid, instead. I thought there may be something to psychic powers and UFOs for a while (I still like listening to old Art Bell shows, but, for a completely different reason, now) I thought ghosts could be explained by natural means, such as magnetic imprints left behind by strong personalities or traumatic events, but, I have finally come to realize that I was fooling myself, and being fooled by others, and accepted the Titles Atheist, Skeptic, etc. and now live my life as if none of these things have any merit whatsoever, which they don't. I don't give undue respect to "men of the cloth" I have no reverence for silly imaginary friends. However, I find myself fighting new silly ideas on the other side, 9/11 was not a conspiracy of the US government, JFK was likely killed exactly the way history recorded, the illuminati is not planning the overthrow of the government, I refuse to hate Bush, or Love Obama just because some people can twist facts or make up stories about them that seem to be possible, I don't agree with some things they have done, and I do agree with others, but, I make my mind up on them as I see real evidence of what they have done, or are doing. I know global climate change happens, and has been happening for the entire time Earth has been spinning around the sun, and I refuse to believe some of the outlandish claims made by either side. I eat meat. I don't believe plants have feelings. I don't believe I have to treat everyone/everything as my equal just because someone says so. I do believe slavery has been wrong for its entire history, although, you can't really project our modern understandings on ancient cultures and say they should have known better. I could go on and on, but, then, what would we talk about, if I give all my positions up front? Oh yeah, I love to debate. But, I come here, not to debate, rather, to find a community that shares some, if not all of my positions, where I can feel like I belong.

Hi.
Welcome to Atheist Nexus and its thousands of good friends.
Do join groups like the busy discussion/debating group “ORIGINS” (Origins: Universe, Life, Humans, Evolution, Religion..... ).
I have been running a long discussion (over 60 posts) there about being "Proud to be Atheist" because we should all be at least inwardly proud---if not loudly proud---seeing that atheists and humanists hold the intellectual high ground of correctness over the fictions of the irrational, superstitious god believers.
