Humanism is a progressive philosophy of life that, without supernaturalism, affirms our ability and responsibility to lead ethical lives of personal fulfillment that aspire to the greater good of humanity.

I just hope the jewelry doesn't end up looking like the atheistic equivalent of a crucifix. After all, atheism isn't a religion.  I feel like a vampire when I see someone wearing a crucifix, particularly around his/her neck!

Carol Novack replied to Mike Lee's discussion 'CHRISTIAN MUSIC HALL OF SHAME' in the group Atheist Humor
Well, I love this, Mike. Tho there could be a very few verbal edits.  EG, Christian music is more than silly; it's ridiculous, but you needn't say so.  The focus is on hypocrisy, no?

Thanks for reading this, Ian. The characters are entirely fictional, quite a bit "over the top."  But there are plenty of "over the top" people here, as there are everywhere, though here, they seem to be multiplying like…

Nice! Anyone you know? Composites? Stereotypes? Fun to read, anyway. Reinforces all my prejudices about Americans.

Greetings, Carol! I notice you haven't been active at Atheist Nexus since Feb. <sigh> Sometimes it can seem a bit fragmented, with different groups for every interest. Please consider a group for socializing, where we talk about whatever's on our minds, Hang With Friends. :D You might feel more at home.

Thanks for the friend invite Carol, it helps to balance out the sociopath remark that I received today from my lovely friend mr. Jubinsky.

Hello, and welcome!  And thanks for the friend invite.  Sorry for the delay in replying, but I've been trying to get two little typing jobs finished by tonight (Thursday), do some baking, etc., and so forth, and I never was any good at multi-tasking.

It's been more than 50 years since I last visited Asheville, and the buybull belters weren't as aggressive then, so most of my memories of the area are very pleasant.  It was the first time in my life that I had seen autumn colors in all their glory...breathtaking!  (And I still have a menu from a cafe there...the prices would make a cat laugh today.)

Again, welcome, and if you're ever in SoCal, Beautiful Downtown Burbank to be exact, I'm here.  The door is open, the tea kettle is on the back burner, and if I ever get these *bleeping!* sugar-free cookies in the oven, we can relax and have a chat.

One warning...I live with my mildly autistic (Asperger's Syndrome) sister, who is also a dedicated JeHoover's Witless.  She knows better than to mess with me, but sometimes she seems to consider visitors fair game.

Somebody must have wished me an "interesting" life.

Carol,
My apologies for the delayed response but the invitation email got lost in my in box.
I moved to Asheville from DC last year and am always up for meeting like minded people.
I hope your autumn is going well.

Indeed it does. After about four years, I have sort of come to terms with the rampant religiosity operative here. Living in Montford helps since I have encountered many like-minded people.

Hello writer Carol, and welcome to this friendly meeting place where we recognise--as freethinking atheists do--that gods are phoney and religion is used to control people;
and how tragic and inexcusable it is that women and minorities have been oppressed these last two thousand years and more.
