Do you think S.E. Cupp is really an atheist?

Started this discussion. Last reply by Dave Rogers Jul 9, 2010. 1 Reply

I really want to avoid the NTS fallacy here, so I'm going to say this before I start: I think it is entirely possible that S.E. Cupp is an atheist. Atheism is not an automatic indicator of rational…Continue

Objective Morality

So what does everyone think about objective vs. subjective morality? Personally, I've come to the conclusion that even if there was a god, there would still be no such thing as objective morality.…Continue

I frequent a forum for ex-Jehovah's Witnesses, and although the particular site I do most of my posting on is pretty atheist-friendly, I do occasionally run into some beliefs that are so insane that…Continue

Why I Can't Support American Atheists

Posted on August 8, 2011 at 8:59pm 5 Comments

As much as I like Dave Silverman, more and more he rubs me the wrong way, and it seems like most of the atheists who do the most rubbing me of the wrong way are affiliated with American Atheists. It seems like they're trying to undo all the work me and many others are trying to do by framing atheism as it's own religion. Whenever I see a Madalyn Murray O'Hair, Michael Newdow, or even Dave Silverman quote, most of the time it makes me facepalm, because most of the time they're reflecting some… Continue

"You do not want to leave too, do you?" Jesus asked the Twelve. Simon Peter answered him, "Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life. We believe and know that you are the Holy One of God." - John 6:67,68

For twenty-six years of my life, those words imprisoned me. I grew up in a different world than most of you, even as I went to school with you and worked with you. I was physically with you, but mentally I might as well have been on another planet…

Constructing a Theist/Creationist Argument in Three Easy Steps

Step One:

Assert without evidence a rule about the physical universe. This rule is universal and unbreakable. Examples include, but are not limited to "everything in the universe requires a cause" or "everything that is complex requires a designer."

Step Two:

Assert without evidence a being who is exempt from the universal, unbreakable law you posited in step one. Examples…

Brian, I’m not the official welcome wagon, but I do spend a lot of time on A|N, so I’ll take the liberty to tell you a little about the site.

There are three ways to join the conversations. You can use the CHAT ROOM, or you can post a discussion in the FORUM or in one of the GROUPS. The FORUM is open to everyone, but to post in a GROUP you must first join it.

I've started eleven groups here, so please join any you think might interest you: HERCULANEUM: A PLACE FOR MEN, FOUR SCORE AND SEVEN YEARS AGO, THE KNIFE & FORK, HUMANE ATHEISTS, CONSUMER ETHICS, A TRICK OF THE EYE, ODDITORIUM, ARS POETICA, LOVERS OF SHAKESPEARE, QUOTH THE RAVEN, and LINGUAPHILES & SESQUIPEDALIANS.

When joining a group, be sure to select FOLLOW at the bottom of the discussions page. The unspoken preference for responding to the comments of another member tend to be that you copy, paste and italicize the text to which you are referring, and then write your response below that. That way everyone knows to whom or what you are referring. Welcome aboard. I hope you enjoy it here.

Hi Brian.
Welcome to this great international site and its thousands of bright people like you who recognise religion for the superstition and giant fraud that it is,
and that gods are merely fictions inside brains cluttered with the stupidity of 'faith'. You have done well to escape from the Jehovah's Witnesses.

Terry Meaden
originator of the busy discussion group
"ORIGINS: Universe, Life, Earth, Humankind, Fossils, Religion, Evolution, Darwin..." with its over 240 discussion topics.

We invite you to come and see, and to make good new friends.
