Chinese man spends life savings on "ark" which will "save" him from Dec 21, 2012

A Chinese man spent about $160,000, his life savings, on an ark that he says will help protect him during the apocalypse that some say will happen on Dec. 21, 2012, based on their interpretation of the Mayan calendar.http://www.goddiscussion.com/104655/chinese-ark-mayan/Buzz:60's Patrick Jones says that it doesn't look like the ark is the sturdiest thing ever built and maybe if the end of days are really upon us, there are…See More

Climate change denier killed in blizzard caused by Sandy

While Mr. Rose's death was certainly tragic, this is just "too fitting" for a GOP climate change denier. His death, and many others, were or will be avoidable. From http://www.wdtv.com/wdtv.cfm?func=view&section=5-News&item=Barbour-County-House-Candidate-Killed-In-Hurricane-Snow-Storm-6329(Press Release From Secretary of State's Office)…See More

Atheist replies with prayer

We live in a very rural area in western Nebraska. We are on the edge of a geological formation known as The Sandhills. They are the largest formation of something called stabilized sand dunes in the world. Geologists say the sand is part of the remains of the last time the Yellowstone supervolcano erupted, and in a few hundred thousand more years, this will all be sandstone.Yesterday, my husband and I went into the county seat to see an attorney about drawing up wills and to go on our biweekly…See More

Greetings! Welcome to the site!
A bit belated - I've been on vacation.

Were I reading all of these books, I'd share the gems of what I'd  learned from each one after I finishing  it. I also decorate my posts with images, such as a picture of the book.

There are a number of places where you could share what you've learned so far, not only the two groups focused on climate change but also a discussion in Hang With Friends about what books we're reading, Nexus Book Club, or even Atheists in the Biological Sciences or Atheists who love Science.

One of the things I've learned is that people don't begin to take a topic seriously on hearing one person discuss it, or two. But when they've heard it six times, suddenly it seems important. So I encourage you to share in any group at all, just so more people are exposed and think about it. It would be great if a general consciousness of climate related issues rose at Atheist Nexus. As a secular and relatively educated community, we have an opportunity to be leaders among the general public in escaping cultural forms of climate denial such as not paying attention or not speaking in public on the topic.

Welcome, Beth! Glad you could join us. :D

Please consider joining a group to meet people and talk about anything that's on your mind, Hang With Friends. You might also like Recovering from Religion, Women Atheists, Female Atheists, and possibly Feminist Atheists.

I also recommend Eco-Logical and Climate Concerns, since Nebraska's climate is changing.

After you've searched for topics of interest in "Groups" above and in the "Forums", don't forget to look at recent activity which hides along the right margin of the page all the way at the bottom.
