Yeah....shiny buckle on the bible belt. Life here can be verrrry interesting. I choose to look at the whole place as one big madhouse. That way, when you laugh at the inmates, they usually don't get it! Humor is just the way I deal. And, it depends on the people you're dealing with. I was born and raised here, so I'm pretty used to the way people are. You can either laugh or drive yourslf crazy with the stupidity.

Good luck eith the postings. I thought they were hilarious. Guess some folks just ain't got no sense of humor!

Welcome back, Mr. Free Thinker. We are glad that you were able to re-post, and start the discussion again.

Is it worth restarting this too?

Hey, Free, Actually things have een pretty lean for the past 6-7 months. I've worked for a staffing agency for about 7 years now, and when things got tight aout last August, we all got our hours cut. I work 2 part-time jobs now, one I really like, but only gives me about 10 hrs a week ( if I'm lucky) and the other I hate. Am in the process of trying to sell my soul to the fed...ie: the VA hospital in OKC. Wish me luck.

Yeah, OKC and Lawton have changed a lot. I've posted some of the pics of the OKC Memorial on my site, but it's not all bad. the economy is still pretty good, cost of living is low, no pollution, fairly decent weather....tornado season notwithstanding. I'm sure you don't miss that. Hell, we've even started to have little earthquakes! Good thing there is no god or I would start to think he was really pissed off at us. bwaaaahahahahaaaa.

Best,
Cassie

A Full Life: Oldie but Goodie

Posted on May 8, 2012 at 12:59am 0 Comments

My brother sent this to me. I had never seen it before even though it's been circulating for some time. I thought that I'd post it here in case you've never seen it either.

The Mayonnaise Jar and 2 Cups of Coffee

When things in your life seem almost too much to handle, when 24 hours in a day are not enough, remember the mayonnaise jar and the 2 cups of coffee.

Why Harris Lost the "Is Good from God?" debate to Craig

Posted on May 6, 2012 at 10:02am 11 Comments

I just stumbled upon a year-old YouTube video named, “Sam Harris gets destroyed by Dr. William Lane Craig”. It’s the 2-hour University of Notre Dame debate held on April 7, 2011, between Harris and Craig. It was titled: “The God Debate II: Is Good from God?” The video can be found at the bottom of this page.

And guess what? Harris really was destroyed by Craig!…

Maps: Comparison of Beliefs

Posted on May 3, 2012 at 7:07am 1 Comment

The following maps were originally published by the London Times Faith Central blog. It's an interesting contrast between religion and science.

As much as we hear about U.S. Christians pushing I.D. in public schools and building multi-million dollar creation-themed parks, it's good to…

Hello Saudi Arabia

Slam Dunking God

Posted on April 30, 2012 at 1:30pm 3 Comments

The naturalist understanding of morality asserts that we have evolved empathy as an impetus to cooperation. Combined with personal experience, empathy leads most of us to a "Golden Rule" sense of morality. From experience, I know what hurts me: with empathy, I know the same things likely hurt you too. Experience and empathy is all we need to decide most moral matters. "Do unto…

Aligning Atheism

Posted on April 7, 2012 at 12:00pm 32 Comments

There's a fundamental disconnect between atheists and the word "atheist". Part of this is because there isn't complete agreement on what the word means.

  • Lack of belief in God
  • Lack of belief in God's existence

Lack of belief in God could simply mean a choice not to believe in God because he is cruel or undesirable for some reason -- but does not… Continue

My first funeral as an atheist

Posted by Two Cult Survivor on May 21, 2013 at 11:30am 0 Comments

I posted the bulk of this on another thread, but wanted to add some context separately.

I finally confronted my faith and embraced the fact of my atheism late last August, 2012. Days after I revealed my "epiphany" to a few friends who knew me from another message board, my sister died from Lou Gehrig's Disease (which pissed her off because she hated catching a disease from someone she never f---ed).

THAT was my sister, understand? She was a beautiful, life-loving, potty-mouthed…

Death of a family member

Posted by Larry Taylor on May 20, 2013 at 8:15pm 8 Comments

OK. I am venting. My mother died two weeks ago. She was a “god fearing christian.” Before her death she refused all medical treatment. She wanted to be left alone. She even refused to speak with my brother who is a methodist minister. He is a pip, let me tell you! I suspect she did not believe, but a woman born in her time could not and did not state her actual beliefs. This is the opening salvo to all christians; FUCK YOU! I had so many people come and tell…

Unbelievable!!!!!!!!

Posted by Christy Stewart on May 20, 2013 at 2:17pm 6 Comments

This probably should not have shocked me as much as it did (especially since I am in Texas). I actually thought my coworkers were playing a joke on me because they know I am an atheist. Sadly, this was no joke. This actually happened.

I work in a psychiatric hospital. The doctors who admit patients are general MDs. (Psychiatrists see patients after admission) Yesterday evening we received several calls from irate parents. A new doctor who was doing admissions yesterday actually…
