I keep seeing that word, "arrogant", being thrown around by the religious. Scientists are arrogant. Atheists are arrogant. And those invitations to debate - "talk with me, but don't be arrogant!" I watched the 1972 documentary "Marjoe" tonight (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0068924/) and I confess to being some what bemused. I don't know what I find harder to swallow - that people can con and shuckster people the way these preachers do with such bald-faced fakery, or that the people in the congregation seem to be unable to see it. I went to a wedding not long ago, held in a church that I think is Pentecostal, certainly is happy-clappy "charismatic" evangelical in it's style. The preacher took the opportunity to "reach out" to the wedding guests who weren't members of his congregation, and went all-out to convince us of the love of God that was sweeping through the room, and that those who failed to heed this were damned. Recently it feels like I've been involved in too many discussions about what actually constitutes rape. Long, involved discussions that boil down to the argument that victims are somehow to blame for what happens to them, whether it's based on how they dress, what their behaviour was, if they did or didn't fight back and so on.
