About Me
Thanks to my friend I am not compartable with Religion anymore. I can't believe anymore and I'm very happy with it.
I left the church in 2012 and joined a wonderful organisation called "Giordano Bruno Stiftung", short GBS. I met a lot of other nonbelievers there. It feels good to be not alone in beeing an Atheist. And now I'm also here. Hello! =)

True, it must have been a little terrifying, hearing from a non-Christian perspective on your theology, for the first time.  I never really believed any of it, but I still had a relatively narrow view of the world.  Admittedly, part of that could be because I'm in the USA, and we're a little self-centered over here, for the most part.  I make an active point of reading more about the world, through CNN and the BBC.  Although, CNN has been going downhill lately.

But growing up, I don't think I really knew that there were other Christians who weren't Catholics, until I was 11 or 12.  I was only vaguely aware of Jews, and I didn't know that Islam, Hinduism, and Buddhism even existed.  I knew about things like the Greek and Norse gods, but I didn't know about anything that modern people believed in, besides Christianity, until I was maybe 14 or 15.  Christians tend to keep their children pretty ignorant, at least here in the US.

I came out as an atheist to my parents when I was 14 or so, I think.  I was asking my mother how much longer I had to go to the evening classes at church, and she said I had to go until I made my Confirmation.  I told her that I didn't want to go anymore, because I wasn't going to make my Confirmation, since I didn't believe any of the nonsense they were feeding us.

Ohhhhhhh, Agora, that film with Rachel Weisz?  Yeah, I saw some stuff about it, back when it came out.  I haven't actually seen it, though.  I know about some of the rougher scenes in the movie.  That would be particularly rough for you, playing part of the Christian mob, persecuting the atheist.  Ouch.

Hmm, so your parents and siblings are very religious, huh?  You have to keep it to yourself, I bet.

And yeah, George Carlin is one of my favorite comedians.  I hope I can one day be even half as good as he was.  I'm still finding my way, with the standup comedy.

Good age for you to discover reality, yeah.  I know some people who only broke free of their religious brainwashing when they were 50 or 60.  That must be painful, looking back at so much of their life wasted.

Let me know if I'm being too vague with anything.  I'm not sure how good your English is.  You seem pretty much fluent, but it's harder to understand slang and metaphors, when you're not speaking it every day, with those around you.  I've tried to cut out some of the vague wording, but I'm sure I left in a lot of it.

Please consider joining a group to meet people and talk about anything that's on your mind, Hang With Friends. You might also like Young Atheist Women, Theatrical Atheists, Women Atheists, Female Atheists, and possibly Feminist Atheists.

I also recommend Eco-Logical and Climate Concerns, since the climate is changing so drastically.

After you've searched for topics of interest in "Groups" above and in the "Forums", don't forget to look at recent activity which hides along the right margin of the page all the way at the bottom.

On a personal note, I've developed an animated gif technique, sort of “pull quote marries slideshow”. Samples are scattered across various groups, but you can find them easily by going to my twitter account. Each tweet has a link (after the description and before the hashtags) to a visually rich example here at Atheist Nexus. If you like them, please follow me

Nice.  I've heard similar things from others who have recently broken free from their religious brainwashing.  So many religious people are terrified about what it would be like without their invisible friend constantly looking over their shoulder, but once you truly manage to free your mind, life is so much better.

I wish there was a way we could explain explain that to them, in a way they'd truly understand.
