ANdrew! Hi, my name is Hank Hyena and I organized an Atheist Film Festival in San Francisco, now there is a group in Manila, The Philippines, that wants to put on a atheist festival. They want an American atheist there as a guest -- do you want to go? Might be some funding for you. They are Pinoy Athiests, but contact me at info@hankhyena.net

Thanks for writing back. No need to apologize. I am sometimes really late in responding to things. There ARE A LOT of distractions in life these days. That is cool you wanted adventure and just did it. I admire that. I was always much too shy and timid to seize the day, and while I am intellectually very adventurous, that has never translated into action, I'm afraid.

Yeah, their language does seem difficult. In a phonetic language like English, phrases can have visual and auditory similarities, such as I'M hungry, I'M sleepy. But from what I can tell of Japanese, it is not like that. I'm hungry has no grammatical similarities to I'm sleepy.

More than the art, I really like the ancient architectural interiors and gardens -- that kind of minimalism. I'm not wild about their roofs, but I like the heavily geometric, simple, balanced, and spacious interiors. Not wild about the sculpture either. I much prefer Greek, Roman, or Indian sculpture to Japanese, Chinese, Tibetan, or Thai sculpture.

Conichiwa. Welcome to Atheist Nexus Andrew. That is cool you live in Japan. I have become increasingly interested in Japanese history and language over the years. I especially like the eras of feudalism and the samurai culture. They were so disciplined and dignified, for the most part. I watch just about very Japanses samurai film I can get my hands on, especially the older stuff from the 50s - 60s, and even the early 70s. I've seen a good deal of the Kurosawa films, as well. (You can read some of my reviews on them in Atheist Cinema.) I've also spent a little time studying the language, but it is grammatically nothing like English, and I don't really have the time to dedicate to it (as I think to really learn it I must be immersed in it). I'd love to go to Japan one day, if I could. I also like the minimalistic traditional architecture and interiors.

What brought to to Japan to begin with?

Hi
Welcome to Atheist Nexus with its 8800 good friends and discussion groups.
Among the groups, try visiting perhaps the busy group “ORIGINS: Universe, Life, Humans, Evolution, Religion.....” with its commonsense discussions. You will be welcome.
One is "Proud to be Atheist" (74 posts) seeing that atheists and humanists hold the intellectual strong ground compared with the pathetic superstitions of the god followers. Similarly, “Religion is aberrant, atheism is truth” (44 posts).

Death of a family member

Posted by Larry Taylor on May 20, 2013 at 8:15pm 4 Comments

OK. I am venting. My mother died two weeks ago. She was a “god fearing christian.” Before her death she refused all medical treatment. She wanted to be left alone. She even refused to speak with my brother who is a methodist minister. He is a pip, let me tell you! I suspect she did not believe, but a woman born in her time could not and did not state her actual beliefs. This is the opening salvo to all christians; FUCK YOU! I had so many people come and tell…

Unbelievable!!!!!!!!

This probably should not have shocked me as much as it did (especially since I am in Texas). I actually thought my coworkers were playing a joke on me because they know I am an atheist. Sadly, this was no joke. This actually happened.

I work in a psychiatric hospital. The doctors who admit patients are general MDs. (Psychiatrists see patients after admission) Yesterday evening we received several calls from irate parents. A new doctor who was doing admissions yesterday actually…

anti-atheist rant from an Orthodox Mormon part 2

What do you think of this,

Nathan Young,

No Jason Torpy it is you that should be banned for promoting atheism, a belief that has no foundation in reality and zero proof behind it.  The letter was a mockery of your atheist beliefs.  I request to the board here that they remove Jason for his unverifiable beliefs in atheism for which he has no proof other than his arrogance.  The letter was a mockery of atheism.  Atheism is stupid and it should be mocked and it…

Anti-atheist post from an Orthdox Mormon

What do you think of this Facebook comment?

Nathan Young to Jason Torpy,

for once you and I can agree on something.  We should disrespect beliefs that are untenable such as the belief that there is no God.  Indeed for me to respect you Jason, I cannot respect your belief in non-belief in atheism.  Your atheism comes across as arrogrance, smugness, and self righteous.  Indeed after reading "An Open Letter to My Religious Friends" I penned one…
