The percentage of muslims in Sweden may be because in the 80s we accepted immigrants from Iran-Irak war plus a few from Yugoslavian war in the 90s. Sweden is 9-10 millions so 3-4 percent muslims is about 350.000 muslims. United Kingdom is 60 or 80…

Right you are, Nikki, the term respect is very much abused in this era of PC. Respect is engendered when something resonates with our values. Some people may be confusing respect with courtesy. When in doubt, go with courtesy.

Joe - thanks for this post. I'm not sure it addresses the OP - it was more of a thoughtful blog entry that defies the common stereotype of the godless hedonist amidst the selfless, pious missionaries. In the end, I do think that standing up for…

I second what daniel said, religious people in america are typically very forceful and will stuff religion into every place they can (i'm only speaking from my experience). New York is more of an escape i believe from what a typical american…

THat was a nice followup. Thank you. Just one comment - much of the US does not consider New York "American". To know the effect of religion on the US, maybe a tour of Indiana, where the licence plates say "In God We Trust", or…

About Me
I am a Hitchian Logarythm, born by a monkey, At first a ignorant mind before morphing through the realms of alkaloid, intruiging literature & real life experiences. After some decade of curious investigating I rediscovered science, logic and reason as a foundation to detect baloney and make more sense to my vivid and lucid world view. My superstitions was humbly but firmly shattered by the axe of reality, the mental illness that ruled our planet for eons was suddenly gone and I found myself in the bare naked progress of the beautyful evolution. Had I stumbled upon Utopia? Was it in fact so that life itself was the answer to the problems I had tried to escape? Thus remained solely a pure smile and a hope for the future, I here by challenge the unjust, pity the fool, admire the curious, laugh about myself, breath audio vibrations, play life, dilute my fear, kill my vegetables for barbecue and embrace the unknown with out fear as I ride (as the cowboys I am) into the setting sun...

Greetings, Loren! I notice you haven't been active at Atheist Nexus lately. <sigh> Sometimes it can seem a bit fragmented, with different groups for every interest. Please consider a group for socializing, where we talk about whatever's on our minds, Hang With Friends. :D You might feel more at home.

Forgive the possibly irrelevant intrusion, but I'm reading the last of the trilogy by Stieg Larsson (see below if you're not sure what I'm going on about) and I see you're from Stockholm. As I've read the first two books (English translations, that is), I've referred repeatedly to maps of Stockholm and of Sweden and, though I've never been there, started to feel as if I sort of know the city (and the rest of the nation, though less so). Despite all the murder and mayhem in the books, they somehow make Stockholm and Sweden seem even more appealing than I had earlier thought them to be--and my uninformed impressions were quite positive. Did the books (or movies--I've seen only the first one, w/ English subtitles) cause a big splash in Sweden? Are Swedes in general or you in particular amused by the attention the books are getting elsewhere these days--and are the books popular there? Please feel free to ignore this inquiry or to reply only most briefly.

Regards in any case,
Ed Buckner, president, American Atheists (in the Atlanta, GA area--SE USA)

Thanks, Anders, for your encouragement! This sort of thing happens in every generation. My parents’ generation had Hitler to contend with. The great enemies are apathy and inactivity. The fight is only just beginning!

Welcome to this great site and its thousands of bright people like you who recognise religion for the superstition and giant fraud that it is,
and that gods are merely fictions filling up valuable space inside the brains of the 'faith-ful'.

Terry Meaden (another European (English); 60+) originator of the busy discussion group
"ORIGINS: Universe, Life, Earth, Humankind, Fossils, Religion, Evolution, Darwin..." with its over 240 discussion topics.

We invite you to come and see, and to make good new friends.

Welcome... this is a great site for socializing and network with other nonbelievers. This site is growing, just like our cause.

Feel free to throw questions to me or reach out to me for anything. I am looking to network with other Atheists and spread proper critical thinking to others and grow our non-believing groups.
