About Me
I am an animal activist specializing in pit bull rescue and rights. I became an atheist when I was 9 years old. My parents were atheist but my grandmothers tried to shove religion down my throat. My paternal grandmother is Catholic and my maternal grandmother is "born-again Christian" (whatever that's supposed to mean).

Hello Amanda.
Welcome to this world of rationality, truth and peace, where common sense helped by science leads to freethinking wisdom. I also saw through the supernatural nonsense of the god believers from an early age (see My Page).

We invite you to make good friends by joining the busy group "ORIGINS: Universe, Astronomy, Life, Earth, Humans, Religion, Gods, Atheism, Evolution, Darwin..." with 660 discussion topics and 3300 members.

Please consider joining a group to meet people and talk about anything that's on your mind, Hang With Friends. You might also want to look at Humane Atheists and Geek and Nerd Haven. After you've searched for stuff that interests you in "Groups" above and in the "Forums", don't forget to look at recent activity which hides along the right margin of the page all the way at the bottom.

Welcome.

Good age for establishing your atheism.  I'm probably somewhere in that ballpark, myself.  I have vague memories of kindergarten Sunday school, thinking that all these stories they were telling us weren't any more believable than the Brothers Grimm stories that I had been told.  I came out of the closet to my parents when I was 14.  The solidification of my lack of belief probably happened more towards the kindergarten end of things, but it's hard to remember that far back, in detail.

Which denomination did you break out of?  I was raised Catholic ... was even an altar boy, from a pure desire to have something to do during mass.  If I had known about the dodgy priests, at the time, I might have reconsidered.
