My parents are Buddhists (involving chinese deities) which is very common in multi-religious Singapore. Fortunately, they have never imposed religion on us (the children). At a rather young age of 10 or thereabouts, I questioned the types of religions and wanted to know how people confirm their belief is the truth (versus the others). I was told by my mother that she does not know either. I am thankful that she was so honest. It was rational to deduce that with such uncertainty, it serves no reason for me to follow suit.

Two of my younger siblings are members of a one of the largest churches in Singapore apparently preaching the prosperity gospel. When I first found out that my younger brother was attending church more than 10 years ago, I recalled debating him on the absurdity of 6-day creationism, the lack of dinosaurs, the likelyhood that religion is a man-made creation. He could not give convincing answers and told me to approach his church cell leader who's versed in theology. He said he will stand steadfast because he 'felt' God had answered his prayers. I asked him for evidence and he did/would not produce any plausible explanation. He is still a christian today and both him and wife have already baptised my niece when she was a year old. Recently, I took an opportunity to have a discussion with my christian siblings about religion. Sadly, my younger brother thinks it's absolutely absurd that humans are of common descent with Chimpanzees.

Pope's 'exorcism' caught on film video

Posted by Debra Stevenson on May 21, 2013 at 2:37pm 0 Comments

There is a video of the Pope's 'exorcism' caught on film.  The man isn't demon possessed, there are likely no 'real' demons.  He's just delusional and doesn't want to accept personal responsiblity for his own behavior for his own dysfunctional life.

Do you support 'traditional' marriage, vot now ad

There is an ad that reads ' Do you support 'traditional' marriage? Vote Now"!  .

No, I don't support 'traditional' marriage because there is no such thing. I support heterosexual and same-sex couples marry each other legally , yes.  'Traditional' marriage promoters largely do not believe that heterosexual women are co-equal to their husbands.  Their only purpose in 'traditional' marriage is to sexually satisfy their husbands if they can and raise children and do all…

i've got no problem with everyone saying "merry christmas" on christmas day.  however, they've turned it into an entire holiday season where it lasts a month or more.  in those situations it should be perfectly acceptable to say "happy holidays" or call it a…

My first funeral as an atheist

Posted by Two Cult Survivor on May 21, 2013 at 11:30am 0 Comments

I posted the bulk of this on another thread, but wanted to add some context separately.

I finally confronted my faith and embraced the fact of my atheism late last August, 2012. Days after I revealed my "epiphany" to a few friends who knew me from another message board, my sister died from Lou Gehrig's Disease (which pissed her off because she hated catching a disease from someone she never f---ed).

THAT was my sister, understand? She was a beautiful, life-loving, potty-mouthed…
