"Greer, SC here (between Greenville and Spartanburg). I actually have such little problem being atheist around here that I don't even think about it most of the time, unless one of our local politicians speak. You're going to find ignorant…"

Robert Knowles replied to AlexU's discussion We still have rights, don't we? in the group South Carolina Atheists
"I feel like there is a lot more good information about atheism out there now than in the past. And I give a lot of credit to the Internet for making that happen. Before the Internet became popular it was much easier to marginalize atheists, but I…"

We still have rights, don't we?

So I just read a few articles, and something 'clicked'. We are constantly controlled by Christians. They run the country, and they make oppressive laws, they try to persecute us, And for what reason? I didn't believe this sort of thing years ago, when I was a naive little kid that knew nothing of the world, but as I've grown older (and become an atheist), I see it everywhere.Case in point:…See More

Alex, welcome to A/N. Glad to see there's another local with eyes wide open. I posted up in SC Atheists about the local group. Of more interest may be the meetup group focused on Evolution if you're into the science of it. They have a monthly meetup and try to coordinate meetings with speakers on appropriate topics. Last month was a lecture series at the Peace Center by a noted scientist. I'm just catching up on all these groups as I just moved to the Upstate about three years ago.

Cheers!
