Nice to meet you Alan. This way I can keep up with by book club friends! Looking forward to talking with you more over Jacoby's Freethinkers. Have a beautiful day.

And thank you for the add. As for my "interesting" profile, the truth is that my real biography is far from that ... thus, the fictionalized account.

Now your biography ... wow! That's awesome!

Good idea about the Atheist Cigar group! Everett might be interested too... Maybe combine it with home-brewing and golf? One my favorite things to do is have a cold beer & good cigar on the golf course. Life can be tough. :-)

I'd love to take you up on your offer, but I can't figure out how to send an email through this thing (I see the inbox and compose--but what's your address??).

Maybe it would be easier for you to shoot me an email and I'll shoot ya one back. :)

Thanks! :)

Hi Alan:

I joined a couple of months ago and am still figuring out how to navigate everything! I belong to the Fox Valley Atheist Meet-up and our organizer told me about Nexus. I thought your bio was very interesting and at the risk of saying something you've probably heard a million times, are you aware of the Non-Prophets radio show that's broadcast every two weeks under the sponsorship of the Atheist Community of Austin (TX)? One of the hosts is Matt Dillahunty and he speaks often of his experiences which include a Christian upbringing and at one point his intention to become a minister. However, I think not much in the Christian world experience can come close to a Calvinist/Evangelical experience. Congratulations on your "escape!"

I looked at your blog, which I liked. I posted a short compliment, but it was under anonymous as I did not fit any of the other posting choices. Has your Rockford/Beloit group actually met? Our group (Fox Valley Atheists if you wanted to search Meet Up) meets on the second Tuesday of the month, so we meet on the 14th this month. We usually go to a restaurant on Randall Road, which is about 20 miles east of DeKalb. I don't know your exact location relative to Rockford proper. If you are in the city or toward the west or Northwest side, it could be quite a hike. Traveling from the east side might not be so daunting. Getting together somehow would be fun, or if it's manageable for you, please join us next week. You can go on Meet-up or let me know and I will provide details for the 14th. The group started with only 3-4 members in January of 2008 and now we're up to 88. We average between 10-15 participants at our gatherings.

I hear what you're saying about the weeknight traveling! We haven't had a meet-up on the weekend, but that's not to say we couldn't. I like the idea of trying to get the two groups together. When I see Todd (organizer) on Tuesday, I'll discuss the idea with him. If we did something like that, maybe it could be in the DeKalb/Sycamore area.

Yay! I saw your RSVP on Meet-up. If the others who are attending don't want to join the meet-up group, you can simply add them as guests under your name. I'm planning on going out to DeKalb tomorrow or sometime this week to check out parks. Any suggestions?

Death of a family member

Posted by Larry Taylor on May 20, 2013 at 8:15pm 5 Comments

OK. I am venting. My mother died two weeks ago. She was a “god fearing christian.” Before her death she refused all medical treatment. She wanted to be left alone. She even refused to speak with my brother who is a methodist minister. He is a pip, let me tell you! I suspect she did not believe, but a woman born in her time could not and did not state her actual beliefs. This is the opening salvo to all christians; FUCK YOU! I had so many people come and tell…

Unbelievable!!!!!!!!

Posted by Christy Stewart on May 20, 2013 at 2:17pm 6 Comments

This probably should not have shocked me as much as it did (especially since I am in Texas). I actually thought my coworkers were playing a joke on me because they know I am an atheist. Sadly, this was no joke. This actually happened.

I work in a psychiatric hospital. The doctors who admit patients are general MDs. (Psychiatrists see patients after admission) Yesterday evening we received several calls from irate parents. A new doctor who was doing admissions yesterday actually…

anti-atheist rant from an Orthodox Mormon part 2

What do you think of this,

Nathan Young,

No Jason Torpy it is you that should be banned for promoting atheism, a belief that has no foundation in reality and zero proof behind it.  The letter was a mockery of your atheist beliefs.  I request to the board here that they remove Jason for his unverifiable beliefs in atheism for which he has no proof other than his arrogance.  The letter was a mockery of atheism.  Atheism is stupid and it should be mocked and it…

Anti-atheist post from an Orthdox Mormon

What do you think of this Facebook comment?

Nathan Young to Jason Torpy,

for once you and I can agree on something.  We should disrespect beliefs that are untenable such as the belief that there is no God.  Indeed for me to respect you Jason, I cannot respect your belief in non-belief in atheism.  Your atheism comes across as arrogrance, smugness, and self righteous.  Indeed after reading "An Open Letter to My Religious Friends" I penned one…
