OutlawGirl replied to Alan's discussion In God We Trust?
"As I understand it, "In God We Trust" was added to money because of the Red Scare. It was supposed to help unite Americans against a common enemy. There's no reason for it to be there anymore except to give Christians reason to claim…"

"The blind are actually able to develope systems for managing their paper money. They fold one, five and ten dollar bills differently, and the same goes for the rest of the demoninations. For example, a blind person might fold a one dollar bill in…"

FreeThinker replied to Alan's discussion In God We Trust?
"I'm surprised more Christians don't see the motto on currency as being against the teachings of the Bible. You've got the story in about Jesus overturning the tables of the money changers. There is also the quote that "it is…"

"In 1955? I guess it's thanks to McCarthy. Methinks this law in anticonstitutional, isn't it? Couldn't it be simply voided by bringing the case to the Supreme Court?"

"Actually, the house made it law in 1955 to have " In God We Trust" as the official motto for ALL currency, so they would need to make a new legislation to void it out."

"I used to cross out "God" and write in other gods, like Zeus or Thor. But, then I bought rubber stamps with E PLURIBUS UNUM. I have both the desk top pad and stamp and a portable stamper in my purse. I simply stamp over the offensive…"

"You're right, Dentro. I would just add that in 1864 "In Dog We Trust" was placed on a 2-cent UNION coin. Does it thus not apply in the South? Ariel"

"Here's a come back that I'm just waiting to use on some Fundie. Next time he starts preaching at you, tell him that you only believe in George Carlin's 3rd Commandment: "Thou shalt keep thy religion to thyself." If that…"

Jaume replied to Alan's discussion In God We Trust?
"You can not serve both God and Mammon. - Matthew, 6:24 Mammon, as you may already know, is a biblic personnification of greed and wealth, i.e. the god of greed and wealth. So, what about giving the 'dollar god' his real name instead of…"

Louis replied to Alan's discussion In God We Trust?
"We could take it off the way we tacked it on. Just change it next time we make new printing plates. There's not law or order making "In God We Trust" legally bound to our currency. Until then I'm quite content with blacking it…"

Welcome to Atheist Nexus with its thousands of good friends.

Do join groups like the busy discussion group “ORIGINS” (Origins: Universe, Life, Humans, Evolution, Religion..... ).

I have been running a long discussion (over 50 posts) there about being "Proud to be Atheist" because we should all be inwardly proud, and many of us outwardly loudly proud,
seeing that atheists and humanists hold the intellectual high ground over the pathetic nonsense of the irrational, superstitious god believers.
