Robert Badgett replied to Aggiememenon's discussion Calling all Texas Aggie Atheists, Past & Present in the group TAMU Former Students (Aggie Atheists)
"I'm a godless, anarchist, Aggie...class of '66. It's good to see there are some brave Aggies coming out of the closet. If more theist Aggies were honest, there would be more of us."

Atheism and Proper Grammar

Posted on March 9, 2011 at 10:19pm 5 Comments

Ok, so you may have seen or heard this headline out there in the Atheo-sphere....

It's not exactly rigorously scientific, I think, but people who have examined data from the popular dating site OKCupid have noted that if you're a stickler for grammar, odds are you're probably an atheist.

Why Harry Potter: The Prisoner of Azkaban is my favorite.

Posted on March 8, 2011 at 12:27am 1 Comment

I think my favorite film in the whole Harry Potter franchise has got to be The Prisoner of Azkaban.  For the sweep and drama, the emotional development of the characters, it does it all for me.

My favorite scene in that movie is near the end, with Harry at the lake, surrounded by swarming Dementors....he keeps holding out, waiting for his father to save him.  And waiting... and waiting...

Until he finally realizes that if anyone is going to save the day, he has to do…

No More Free Ning and Atheist Nexus future...

Posted on May 5, 2010 at 7:44am 2 Comments

I didn't see any FAQ or news item address this yet, but I have heard that Ning is transitioning from a free network to a pay network, and I was wondering what will be the fate of Atheist Nexus? I'm unemployed at the moment so this is no trivial matter for me. Are the A|N administrators happy with the Ning decision, indifferent, what? Is the plan to stick it out with Ning, or move to a different free (to end users) service? Or should A|N members plan to pony up $3 a year to continue… Continue

Calling all Texas Aggie Atheists, past & present.

Posted on January 6, 2010 at 11:30am 0 Comments

I am working on starting up an A|N group for Texas A&M Former students who are also atheists. There are a lot of Aggies out there, of course, but how many of us are nonbelievers? I'd like to know and meet you. I'm TAMU Class of 1993 and was a member of outfit Trident P-2.

We hear all about the famous "Aggie Network", but does it really work for you if you're an atheist, or a Libertarian instead of a Republican, or worse, you're a goddless lefty liberal like yours… Continue

I resigned my Library job with TWU in mid-December after my boss and I reached an impasse over what constituted reasonable work expectations for a Librarian I, Cataloger. She absolutely slammed me in my annual performance review with no advanced warning or counseling or anything. She then set up basically impossible conditions, and it was very clear that she was trying to run me off and was setting traps to get me fired. I tried to talk things out with her but failed every time, because her… Continue

My aspergers is mild, but explains so much in my life.  I would never had known if it hadn't have been for my son's diagnosis.  I write about our experiences on a website & blog.

Would have taken a lot of courage to leave a marriage.  I was agnostic (leaving toxic pentecostal christianity) when I met my hubby (agnostic but had some 'traditional' anglican exposure).  He wanted to get married in an anglican chapel at a school he went to. I was happy to oblige (but would have quite happily got married in a garden).  My mother wasn't happy about it because 'catholics & anglicans aren't real christians.' Only recently I am identifyng as atheist (that word seemed scary).  I ticked non-religion on the recent census, my hubby left it blank - he doesn't think he fitted any of the boxes

It is nice to have someone so active on the first day of joining. I chat with another guy in Texas and he tells me about all the extra crazy that goes on there.I was reminded of something George Carlin once said," The world is a freak show and being born in America gets you a front row seat," adding that being in Texas must be a backstage pass.
