I do have a few manga. Do those count as comic books? Also, even though I am not yet a citizen of West Texas, I have decided to take this opportunity to announce my plans to move there before the year 2100 - 2200 at the latest.

Aaron- howdy and welcome! Ironic arachnophobia...sounds painful! I think it more than makes up for your embarrassing lack of commitment to comics and West Texas.

Hey Ad & Jode. Sorry for very tardy "hello" and "welcome to the world's largest gathering place of West Texas Arachnophobic Atheists who collect comic books. My understanding is Australia is somewhere in West Texas (Texas is…

A lot of atheists consider that you must strictly be open minded about the existence of gods, there being no conclusive proof either way – I think most of us are closet teapot agnostics, but choose to call ourselves atheists because it…

I don't have a problem with networking, and preferential treatment of one's own group may be morally dubious, but a fact of life everywhere of which one needs to be aware. Lack of identification doesn't bother me:Here,Sanitarium, maker…

It would be alright in my eyes if we Atheists were able to have Atheist businesses which intentionally exclude all religion from the employment roster. IE, if you're Christian, you're not allowed to work for the company. Unfortunately, it…

If they do discriminate against a specific customer in the provision of goods or serivces, that would be a breach of law. Of course, one of the reasons that this practice gets my gander is that I have had the experience of tenderering for a…

Stephen Moore replied to Ad & Jode's discussion 'Is the concept of a "Christian Business" morally defendable? And is it illegal?'
Do others find the concept of a Christian Business morally repugnant? I don't find it morally repugnant, but I do feel minor disquiet. However, that disquiet is based only on vague concerns about what could occur (i.e., worst fears of…

Jared Lardo replied to Ad & Jode's discussion 'Is the concept of a "Christian Business" morally defendable? And is it illegal?'
Does such a business breach equal opportunity / anti-discrimination legislation by preferentially offering employment to one religious group? Probably. I'm no lawyer, but I'm sure that religion is on the list of things that you're not…

Is the concept of a "Christian Business" morally defendable? And is it illegal?

I discovered a little while ago that there is such a thing as a "Christian business".As I understand the concept, it is a business that, as part of its operating precepts (among other things) acts to either preferentially or exclusively deal with other "Christian businesses" and to employ Christian staff.I realised today just how morally repugnant I find this concept. If I understand it correctly, these businesses essentially operate as a cartel founded on religious prejudice.I did a little…See More

Perhaps meeting a minimum of 2 out of 3 criteria should be a minimum

I agree. As someone who neither lives in West Texas, nor collects comic books, but IS arachnophobic (ironically...), I second the proposal to review our recruitment guidelines.

Hi Adam,

Good luck with the planning the group is doing, let me know if you need help!

Yeah, i hate getting people trying to convert me also. I used to think it would be a good opportunity to have a laugh, then i started thinking it would be a chance to convert them to atheism. . . but that hasn't worked out too well . . .

What agency did your wife sell out of?

Hey Adam! Welcome to Atheist Nexus! I'm Kris from up on the Blackall Range. I'd like to invite you to join our Aussie, Kiwi and South Pacific Atheists group.

I'd also like to let you know that a group of us Sunshine Coast atheists meet each month for dinner at the Reef Hotel, Noosa. Our next dinner is at 6.30pm on Wednesday, 12 August. It's very informal, and a lot of fun.

If you're interested, you can contact me here or at avalonbythelake at yahoo dot com dot au

I hope you enjoy the site!

That's OK Arnab. Much quicker than the second coming of Christ. Wouldn't want to be hanging by the balls waiting for that to happen.
