The black and Hispanics were great with music; we kids gathered at their sites to eat oatmeal crackers chipped out of the bottom of a cast iron pot where they cooked their daily oats. Men used chisels and hammers to break oat-candy from the metal and throw it to us kids. Lots of music, singing and dancing to "Spoons," harmonicas, "penny pipes," various kinds of string instruments: banjos, guitars, fiddles.
