Oh how lovely. I love your description of the yard and the wildlife there. I can picture myself sitting there.
I would love to see that hawk you describe. I saw one perching on my fence when I got home one day. It was so beautiful. It was a Red-tailed Hawk. It wasn't even scared of me. I got to look at it closely. So beautiful.
I just love all your photos!
Comment by Joan Denoo on May 4, 2012 at 11:32pm By the way, Steph, I supply a lot of shrubs and trees for critters to escape the hawk's attacks. However, hawks are clever, even as they are beautiful. One sat on my umbrella while I was typing on the computer last summer and a fleeting thought came that the hawk was Brigid - the Celtic Goddess -The Two faced Goddess, scarred on one side, beautiful on the other, Goddess of Fire and the Forge, and Goddess of Poetry and Beauty. In Celtic mythology a hawk represents clear-thinking, being observant, courageous, wise, seeing the larger picture, creative, overcomes problems, visionary, is a primal life force, and is a messenger. Pretty impressive to be sitting under, her talons piercing the canvas. In any event, she is beautiful.
Comment by Joan Denoo on May 4, 2012 at 12:30pm Steph, Yes, all these flowers are from my yard and have been brought in from family, neighbors, friends, birds and squirrels. I keep one part of the garden where I cut off mature seeds as they develop and throw them on a pile. All the critters gather there for a feast. So many critters gather, a hawk comes for his meal too. Even though I cry when I see one of my little friends fly off in the hawk talons I remind myself that nature isn't gentle. Never was, never will be. We live in a fang and claw world. The trick is to create as much peace and beauty as possible and fill it with people who enjoy this environment. I chase away those who are not able or willing to solve problems and resolve conflict non-violently.
