The Bible itself doesn't give us any reliable way to tell the nuggets of morality from the sadism and absurdity. (Even many religionists see the text as something not to be taken literally.)
The Skeptic's Annotated Bible calls out in detail fifteen categories of cruelty and ignorance, as well as one for the positive "Good Stuff".
