Columbus, Ohio 1959

My (19th) birthday present to myself. This was not during the show...a friend and I arranged for private ice time during the day, and took photos for hours.

That's a really neat story.

I first met her in 1967, but then I was her In Home Supportive Service worker from 1994 until she died in 2001.  Mostly what I did was drive her to appointments, take her shopping, and stuff.  (She loved to "shop"...she'd walk through an entire store, just looking...drove me crazy.) But there was a problem, sometimes I'd have to pull the car over to the side of the road,  or get off the freeway because we'd get to laughing so hard.  About anything.

She told me a lot of interesting dirt about competitive skating judging before the Great Salt Lake Olympics scandal.  I didn't really believe everything she told me till that happened. And by then she was gone, and it was too late for me to apologize for doubting her.

We did have a major falling-out over the OJ Simpson trial. But since the DA put on such a clumsy prosecution, and he was acquitted, so we got over it.

I just read that article you linked me to.  Mabel Fairbanks has an amazing life.  She taught many famous people to skate. Wonderful story -- thanks!

I don't remember if I was 12 or 13 when I had my first lesson...that was also my first time on the ice.  I had burned out on ballet when I was 11 or 12, and quit, but I had fallen in love with a local LIVE TV show called "Frosty Frolics," and when my mom saw an ad in the paper about a little ice skating studio opening up in town...offering a discount on the first 5 lessons, she asked me if I wanted to try it.  WHOOOO-HAH!  Did I ever!

Here's a story about one of the stars of "Frosty Frolics" that I got to know later. She had the most amazing life, and the most amazing split-jump:

That's better than I can do -- I can't ice skate at all.  : )

Thanks, but I was just average...one of the chorus line. That spiral was my only spectacular thing. I loved to see how high I could get my right foot...

Some Wiccans and their seeking approval from Christians

One of the many religions that I had once belonged to was Wicca.  It seems to me a lot of Wiccans but not all as well as some members of other Neo-Pagan groups seek the uncritical and unconditional acceptance from Christians and folk of other religions for their beliefs.  This is understandable in its own way but I think you'd be wasting your time with the fundamentalists adherents of any non-neopagan religion.  They don't want to accept or agree with anyone else's religious beliefs other than…See More
