18 month old Buddleia hybrid

These grew fast. This was about 6 inches tall when I planted it January 2013. In the NW, most Buddleias are invasive. This one is a sterile intergeneric hybrid, so does not make seeds. They are also called "Butterfly Bush" because butterflies like them. Also, I've seen bumblebees and hummingbirds sipping nectar.

Thanks for the nice comments!

This winter I bought 3 more varieties, mail order.  Two died.  I don't know why - buddleias are so vigorous.  It might have been the big freeze.  One did grow with some vigor, and is about to bloom.  That will be yellow.

The others are starting to bloom now too.  I want to post a photo when they are.

k.h, I would live having a purple one, but in the NW they are invasive.  There were some at Lowes, but technically they are not legal here.  I resisted the temptation to buy one - they are very nice.

A butterfly bush. How lovely. I have a purple one that does well every year and a silver one that does ok. As long as l prune back the dead blooms they bloom till frost.
I've really got to learn to post photos from this phone.

Oh Daniel, I am so jealous of the rain that must have produced such a beautiful plant. Yours in such an inspiration that I'm going to try again next year.

Joan, I think that's our difference in climate.  The parent species is listed as an invasive weed, west of the Cascades.  I'm almost shocked at how fast it grew.   I'll post again when the flowers open.

Deer and rabbits don't eat them.  That's a big plus for me.

Your buddleia is so healthy. I have successfully killed at least three attempts to get one growing in my garden. You clearly have the knack! You have a nice smile and look proud as a papa.
